Now hopefully they actually make it, unlike many of their past catalogue items that were unavailable

the crate engines will be nice, also they have warranty. but for performance applications its probably better to use someone elses PCM

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/03/16 05:33 AM

Since it's an unlocked PCM (with self learning and torque management turned off) a Diablo tuner could put whatever tune you want.

This is what I would like to know.
Not looking at 2500 hp or 5 kits of the sauce or even traction control.
Would like to know the limits of the calibration.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/04/16 01:23 AM

It wasn't this site, but one of them said it was 50 state legal emissions, and it has a 2 year warranty. Makes me think the pcm might not be as unlocked as they say.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/04/16 10:21 PM

Called mopar performance and they said its unlocked. Diablo and away you go!
This could be the answer to many problems with retrofitting this engine.

Can the Diablo tune for a large cam or forced induction?
Posted By: WO23Coronet

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/05/16 12:58 AM

For sure it can, lots of cam/forced induction guys over on LXForums

Im glad they're finally doing this the RIGHT way. To bad its 10 years to late.

No kidding.

The Mopar Performance program has always been run on a shoestring and screwed up. I know an engineer (now retired) who was actually working on a 440 crate engine with (EFI I think) and the hoops of red tape he had to jump through was insane.

Priced one in Canada and was actually surprised how cheap it was, ( cheap being a relative term )
and I just happen to have an empty engine bay in the garage.....

what was the canadian pricing if you don't mind me asking? I have a duster and a D100 that could both possibly get a new hemi, one will for sure

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/06/16 12:26 AM

Being thats its 1800 us I'm thinking 2500 + Canadian
Lets say 1800 from NY state.
1800 X 7% sale tax= 1926 US
1926 US X 1.33 for the exchange =2176.
2176 X 1.13 for our sale tax=2459.

currency conversion on the 1926 is 2561.

I am lucky though I would be dealing with montana and alberta tax wise

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/06/16 01:13 AM

Messed up my numbers. Use 1.13 instead of 1.33.
So 2561 X 1.13= 2900 Can.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/06/16 03:16 AM

From what I have been told this kit is mainly for the crate engines but will work on 2014 and newer production engines. Won't work on older engines.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/06/16 04:10 AM

I believe the reason why is the crank Reluctor wheel or toner ring.
They changed them and it has a different tooth arrangement.
Change this and I think it will work.
Any VVT and will work provided the ring is the proper one.
Don't know if the cam position sensors are the same since the beginning of the VVT.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/06/16 04:56 AM

I'll be sticking with a standalone Megasquirt ECU.
Posted By: HotRodDave

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/14/16 10:54 PM

Is this for the VVT or the earlier engines and does it do the MDS stuff?
Posted By: MattW

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/15/16 02:25 AM

For 2014 to present. Runs factory 5.7 and 6.4.
So VVT and MDS are functional.
This I believe is the only true plug outfit for a 385 HP 5.7 and 485 HP 6.4.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/15/16 05:29 AM

They could be manual trans engines without MDS so they can be used with any trans. That would make more sense.

You are correct.
Right from allpar.

The unlocked factory PCM has a custom calibration; the Mopar 345 Crate Hemi Engine Kit bumps horsepower to 383 and torque to 425 lb.ft. for the 5.7-liter (well above production stock), while the 392 Crate Hemi Engine Kit keeps the 6.4 at 485 horses and 472 lb.ft. of torque. The engines are designed for manual transmissions; automatic transmissions, such as the Torqueflite 727 and 904, while not optimal, can also be adapted.
Need to read before I post!

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/16/16 08:57 PM

The kit works with 2013+ engines!
MattW is very right, the crank target wheel and sensor is different 2012 and prior.

what else is different on a older engine, I'm not sure.

No MDS btw.

As for the canadian prices... find a place that will give you some percent off.. price is MSRP. already seeing it online for cheaper, like 1560$ USD. Thats 2093$ CAD today..

Handheld tuner that you can load flash tunes onto. You may be able to tune on-the-fly with it?

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/21/16 08:34 PM

I thought the 5.7 was making 395 in the newer trucks, 345 was the 03-08 rating? Seems if it is for the newer truck engine (most redily available of the 2013+ engine) it will make less HP not more... I am confused
Posted By: Driftacular

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/22/16 10:33 PM

345 is the displacement. 345 cubic inch = 5.653L .. so 5.7L.
it makes 383 HP, 425 torque.

current ram is 395hp, 410 torque. (but this is a different variant of the 5.7L hemi)

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/23/16 02:11 AM

The ram 5.7 has a different intake that's supposed to make better power, but I suspect it's a lot of "pen and paper dyno numbers". I think besides the intake they're the same motor (cam, heads, compression etc)

Don't know why its only 383 hp and the new ram is 395.
Can't be the intake on the ram cuz they use a variable intake on the 6.4. So they should be able to do the ram also?
Matt

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/23/16 06:44 AM

The 5.7 crate uses the car intake, I think the truck intake is the "reason" the Rams rated at 395.
Posted By: 72Swinger

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/23/16 08:57 AM

I think the truck intake is variable runner as well.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 11/24/16 04:05 AM

I have a 2011 ram 5.7 intake here and it is variable

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 04/24/17 06:26 PM

I called Diablo today as I'm almost ready to start my 6.4 and I bought the mopar crate wiring and computer kit. Diablo stated that they do not have anything that support this PCM? I was told that the PCm is umlocked but their software may "re-lock it"

I'm not sure if the guy knew what he was talking about... anyone else have any input on this issue?? Thanks.

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 04/29/17 05:02 PM

Pushed like hell for MP to sell that 2006-7-8-9-10-11-12 and 13.

Multiple lists of part numbers created by my coworkers, countless emails and discussions why it would be a great idea, hours and hours spent trying to convince people, etc.

Better late than never, right?

In the time between '13 and today, how many customers got tired of waiting and went the LS route? Only a couple, right? LOLzz

I remember before this crate engine Mopar had another one listed, as a retrofit into older (95 and earlier)Rams?

Re: Mopar is making a retrofit kit! - 05/26/17 10:08 PM

I just installed one of those kits in a cuda in the last couple weeks. It was easy, I guess. There was at least one drawback to the kit. The harness to the computer could be longer. It doesn't leave much room in the older cars to keep things clean. Unless you want to just bolt it to the fire wall. Then the fuse/relay box placement. I was able to hide everything. I'll have to post some pics.

Please do. I will be doing this soon and would love to see how you did it.
