Rear sump oil pan?

Have any of you guys run the Stef's rear sump drag pan?

It would be great if someone has tried a side bucket pan. I wonder if Steff would make one up on request, like this one for my BB

Hi Greg. I have been thinking about having a pan made, and saw this Stef's pan. I like the idea of a 2" kick out from the steering knotch back.

I have always been told that a kick out on a skirted block made little difference. Did you see much gain on the big block?

I can't say much about hp gain, although due to better oil control I believe there had to be enough to make a difference.

I would really like to run that pan and may get it next time engine come out

I would like to see the bottom of that pan. How do you bolt that pan on to the block?

There are two plugs in the bottom of the pan that you can get a 1/4 drive socket through to the two bolts inside the pan.

Rod, I found a tech article by Reher Morison in the National Dragster about the LS engines, and it had some interesting comments on engine design. What caught my eye was the remark about skirted blocks (AKA Hemis, BB mopar types) aren't the best choice for all out performance due the skirted blocks not allowing the side bucket pan and scraper to be as effective as a non skirted block. He didn't specify how much, but he was talking about motors and their potential or all out Hp like in Comp Eliminater classes, where Hp per cube is king. I suspect then that the best reason to do a side bucket style is for oil volume and control, which I am sure there is some advantage. Barton ought to know more, having some of the fastest Mopes with a new Hemi?

Thanks Greg for getting to think about this a little more, sometimes I just want to push the easy button and buy it.

My gen3 project has been slow coming together I do not need the pan right now, but I would like to do something with more volume then the Milodon pan I have now. I also need to think about how a diaper will play with it to make it easy to service and not melt on the headers.

the factory truck pan is rear sump and a 7 quart.. they make steel and alum rear sump
