Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/03/16 04:01 PM

I think it would be interesting to start a post on your GenIII builds in older muscle cars. And your ETs. Post away smile

09 Jeep GC... 5.7 13.76@99mph.... Mods are K&N intake, Diablosport 93 tune, full SRT8 factory headers and exhaust with cat delete..... 2WD with factory 3.73 rear gear sure grip weighs 4400LBS.... I would not build a gen3 with any heads heads earlier than the Eagles. Anybody still building an LA based engine is spending more money and leaving power on the table compared to the new small block Hemi.....

Tpabayflyer: Were you able to get away from a check engine light when you deleted your cats?

I am still using the factory SRT8 cats so no problem there..... I did delete the resonators out back for a more angry rumble! TBF

I'll keep checking in. I didn't really see anything on A bodies only that was NA and running well enough to twist my arm yet.

^^^ That is pretty dang impressive right there! I will probably never make a "good" pass in mine but I couldnt be happier with its performance on pump gas and 0 maintenance and ability to drive it anywhere.

Me and my brother are looking to build one for late next year/early 2018. We picked up a 5.7 complete for cheap so we've been selling off parts we don't need. Trying to get rid of some early 5.7L heads right now. We will do a half fill on the block for added rigidity. I've located some 6.1 heads that I'll have CNC'd at some point as well as getting some other parts purchased. We're just going to take our time with it so its done right. We want to do something different so we're going to wind ours up quite a bit to make peak power up in the rpms.

If anyone wants some early 5.7 heads:

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/09/16 06:35 PM

Seems like almost everyone I read about is in a "heavy weight" car. I do the math and still come up with numbers short of the good old fashion LA small blocks. If I'm going to spend double the money I want to see ET on the table. My LA stuff is available dirt cheap so I keep stocking up.

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/09/16 07:51 PM

I am not sure the value is 100% there for people wanting to switch from LA to gen III just yet. But if your starting with nothing there is no question that gen III is the way to go.

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/09/16 08:57 PM

Agreed, and a nice roller rocker arm setup under $1200 would be great too for those wanting to run higher lifts and taller springs!

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/09/16 09:05 PM

There's a guy on the LXForums that's run a 9.4 @ 144 mph in a 3200 lb Magnum. It's a pretty decent build, 468" and Thitek heads. I'm sure a similar time could be run at less cubes and Apache heads, just have to twist it harder.

You should wait till we get the small cam out of that monster and the new one in
A lil more head and get that stock intake worked on some and we're hoping for a much better number

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/11/16 05:18 AM

Please do tell! What size cam is in it now and what is it being replaced with? What aspect were you involved with on the build? Very impressive build

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/11/16 05:29 AM

Steve, is he still running a stock 6.1 intake? Ive been told those are pretty much done at 6500 rpm. I have one I ported and polished on mine, i'd say its done at more like 6900 but I have not put it on a dyno to find out.

I'm taking this is a NA engine. Can you post the engine specs or are they not available for viewing.

At 122 mph in your 72 Dart you have low 11's potential with good hook. up Ron

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/14/16 05:41 AM

Thanks Ron, im confidant it has 124-125 in it but honestly its far from setup for drag racing. Its a corner carver.

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/17/16 02:03 AM

I can tell you guys that I removed a 422 W9RP motor and replaced it with a G3 that was a 6.1 block and heads stroked to 426"

my car weighed 3250 with 727 and dana on drag radials with 456 gear and exhaust. same car combo for both motors

W9 went 9.63
3G went 9.61

pretty darn impressive for stock block and heads

I hope its super strong because Goss just broke his stock block

Re: Quarter mile times and setup. - 02/28/16 07:28 PM

I think Goss needs a billet block and Hellcat heads.
