Tire combination for my B Body - 07/13/20 07:41 PM
I've consulted my two build confidants and we tossed around some ideas, I want to get some more input on the subject.
My Roadrunner is nearing body work completion. It's on 10 year old tires that are rollers, and Mustang wheels the have been used as rollers. I'm not fond of their style, but they proved my fitment numbers. Time to sell them to a mustang guy.
I want to go with one of two options: an 18x8 or 9 front with a 255 to 275 front and 18x10 with 295/40-18 or an 18x10 square with a 285/35-18 or a 295/35-18 all around.
I dont have the budget for custom wheels. I want the ET Wheels LT-III but I can't spend $2200 on the tail end of a restoration. I would do an 18x10/18x12 since I've got the wider tubs in the rear now. That would be a 295 front and 315 rear.
I'm looking at the American Racing VN215 and VN510. Both come in 0, 6 and 12mm offset that is ideal as a bolt on wheel for a classic car like this.
My Mustang wheels confirm their numbers.I won't be drag racing, I plan on road trips and a lot of daily driving. The square set up has the potential to get max life out of a set of ties, while not rubbing anything at full lock and will be a set of supreme Summer tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
The staggered size wheels will be a set of Falken Azenis. Probably a little louder, maybe a 10,000 mile set of tires but they're also more affordable at no more than $280 each. They are a 200tw tire. My ride height will be able to be a little bit lower and tucked with this set up.
What is everyone's experience and input on these options?
