A body brake suggestion

A body brake suggestion - 03/26/18 06:13 AM

Need to get into a better braking system
The cars a 71 demon
Has factory sbp front disk brakes
Rear is LBP drums using aftermarket axles

Like the looks of the willwood calipers obviously

Currently leaning towards a 17x7 front wheel and a 17x9.5 or wider rear wheel
What kits are available that I can inquire about
Most stuff I see is based of drum spindles

Should be able to run 245/45/17 front tire on a 17x8 with 5.25” backspace.

Look at the dr diff kits with the FMJ spindle or 73-76 Abody spindle.

1) 2 piston PBR/Cobra caliper with 13” rotors

2) 4 piston brembo/brembo-like calipers with 13” rotors

What is the situation that you get the poor braking with the factory disk?

Does anyone (still?) sell a 'simple' and affordable Wilwood caliper on a stock 11.75" disc system?

Of course the Wilwood claiper would need to have a minimal 2.75" piston area just like the stock calipers had.

I think to recall having seen Andy made brackets for this purpose but he stopped producing them because of low demand? Or was this something else he made once?

Those were brackets that adapted gen 1 Viper brakes to the 11.75 rotors. I remember seeing them in Mopar Action. Wish he still made them.

I put the Mustang Cobra brakes from Dr Diff on my Duster...13" front, 11.75" rear. Great brakes, especially with the hydroboost, which pushes them over the edge to insane. 73 Disk spindles and 68 B-body 8 3/4

The car has 18x9 +35 at all 4 corners and 275-35-18 tires.

I make brackets that mate first generation Viper calipers and 11.75" C-body rotors to B/E/'73-A body drum knuckles. See below:

http://www.doctordiff.com/viper-caliper-mounting-brackets-for-mopar-drum-knuckles.html

I also reproduce the AR000 Wilwood on 11.75" caliper brackets. I haven't made a listing for this part yet, but I have plenty in stock.

I sold the design for the Wilwood on 11.75 rotor to DoctorDiff when I got out of the brake business.

I'm putting Viper calipers with 13 inch rotors on the front of my '72 Duster. I'll be using a 17x6 wheel with a 205/55-17 tire since it is more of a drag race car than a corner burner.

I use 13 inch rotors with Porsche calipers on my '65 Coronet. That setup is hung on a FMJ knuckle. I use a 17x8 rim with a 235/55-17 tire on that car. It is a very nice setup. Stops like a modern car.

Tim's red Valiant used a lightweight setup from Baer. Baer 13 inch rotors and the 6P caliper. This is a very nice setup and you can buy it as a bolt on kit.
