JOLIET AUTOBAHN ROAD COURSE - SUN OCT 7, 2012 - 10/02/12 04:55 PM

To anyone interested and within reasonable driving distance, there will be a Mopar Gathering at Joliet Autobahn Road Race course on Sunday, Oct 7, 2012. The cost is ~$15 (to enter into the track), and there will be a designated Mopar parking area for the Chicagoland Mopar Connection and guests. There will be sanctioned road races held through the whole day, starting around 8am, and hosted by the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs -- North Suburban Sports Car Club.

Best of all... during the lunch time, for about 30 minutes, YOU can drive your MOPAR on the road race track ... for FREE with the other MOPARS... great for a different "experience" and photo taking of MOPARS on a road race track!

Actually, if you're further interested, there is a hi-speed autocross being held there on SAT, OCT 6. (other similar events can be found in the club info.)

Also, your's truly -- MOPAR MITCH -- will be the designated "Pace Car" at the beginning of each of the several road races throughout the day. This is a whole lot better a sight to see instead of the usual brand XYZ as pace cars!

I offer this event to you, along with regards to fellow MOPAR ROAD RACER Brian Garcia with his beautiful vintage '67 B'Cuda GT1 Trans Am car (Brian is current President of the hosting NSSCC) to come out for a MOPAR day at the road race track.

Joliet AUTOBAHN is a 3.5 mile long track; located in Joliet, IL.

It's too far for me Mitch, but I am sure you and the rest of the Chicagoland guys will have a good time. Try not to leave the field too far behind on the pace lap.

Whenever I'm the "pace car", I am restricted to speeds, such as 50-70 mph max... all the cars behind me are zig-zagging to warm up their tires... a pretty cool sight, especially the hi-horsepower cars with their sounds!!! Awesome!!!

Practice sessions begin at ~8am, then qualifying sessions by mid-morning, then lunch time track "touring"... road races begin 1pm... multiple classes to watch throughout the day. The PRICE is a bargain... We look forward to seeing you and others! also, since this is a "country club", there's a decent restaurant on site and clean bathrooms. Spectators can also go to the TOP roof-level of the main scoring building to get a panoramic-view!

Also, there's only one main entrance gate into the track, that's where you'll park briefly and go pay at the small building, they do NOT take credit cards... cash is best. Be sure to look up your directions to get to the race track... its about 3 miles SW of the NHRA strip... small signs can be followed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day... some good racing and fun lunch laps. I may go back for some hot laps. Thanks Mitch!

Darn... I just read this posting on Monday morning! I'm just a couple of miles from that track and it would have been a blast to go there with my Cuda again. I was fortunate a few years ago to attend a car show there in which they allowed us to run a one lap parade lap (no speed limit but no passing allowed).

The weather was a bit chilly, but the audience was great! We had a few Mopars come out to the event.... with or without their cars... just meeting everyone was great! Thanks to Challenger70 (Ron) for takling the in-car pics from my T/A.

AJH's (Andrew) beautiful "70 Plum Crazy Challenger was very impressive! This car has to be seen to be believed! Its a real sleeper that can wake up everyone!

The Sandberg family (John/Trudy, Sean and Ryan) all came out -- "70 race AAR, "73 440-6 race Challenger, "67 1-owner Formula-S B'Cuda fastback.

We also had a "65 B-cuda and a new Charger R/T... maybe a few others?

Brian Garcia's Vintage "67 B'Cuda put on a really good show on the track as well as in the pits. Some lucky "young guns' got to sit in the car!... telling their Dad that they want a car like this!..;<))

We'll try to get some more Mopar gatherings like this in the future at some road race tracks, etc.

THANKS again to Brian Garcia for the invite! We had a really good time!
