Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 02:39 PM

Main case weighs just 14 lbs. vs. 36 lbs. in cast iron.
A Body tail weighs 6 lbs. vs. 18 lbs. in cast iron.
'66-'69 B Body tail weighs 8 lbs. vs. 21 lbs. in cast iron.
'70 - '74 B / E Body tail weighs 8 lbs. vs. 21 lbs. in cast iron.
Sidecover weighs 2 lbs. vs. 5 lbs. in cast iron. It has extra ribbing inside.
Main case countershaft bore is already bushed.
Sidecover bores are bushed as well.

Hmmm, very interesting indeed. I'm trying to figure out what to do for a trans next winter, bite the bullet and go Tremec TKO or rebuild the 833... What sort of cost are we talking here?

VERY cool. Can I put my Hemi 4speed guts in it? I have a low mileage, resto'd Hemi 4 gear form a 69 440-6 RR but am putting it in an E body.

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 03:25 PM

71TA,
They take all the factory internals! They use all factory seals, gaskets and hardware. You can put your guts into it. We are making cases in both 307 and 308 front bearings to fit every application.

I was also planning on swapping in my 18 spline internals. I have purchased alot of parts from Jamie, excellent stuff and quick delivery. 4 speed linkages and so on.. He isn't shy about offering advice or help either...great guy.

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 03:54 PM

That looks great. Great product idea! I spent more than a few hours working with a friend of mine to bush a factory aluminum case. When we got all done we still didn't have anything that worked due to the number of casting flaws in the original housing. If you're going to run a four speed, then this has to be something to check out.

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 04:15 PM

jamie , looks good .

a few questions , is that B body shift mount a machined piece like the e body or is that a stocker cast piece you happen to have ?

had you put any thought or effort into replacing the roller bearings the factory used with a taper roller bearing ? i can see one stumbling block , but i haven't made the measuremments yet to see if parts from a T5 can be retro fitted between the mainshaft and the iput shaft .

also , have you assembled on and had it installed behind a high HP engine in a racing atmosphere ?

my need is for stock appearing racing and if it can handle a wide open throttle shift with a 550 plus HP engine its of little good to me ...

unfortunately the stock appearing guys as well as resto anal freaks will have to grind off your logos ...

Not bad, folks - it's cheaper than steak on a per-pound basis :-)

I already have an aluminum tail housing and have to pull the trans to fix the tailshaft busing. Have to check how much work to rebuild the trans and go from there...

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 04:51 PM

JohnRR,
I did explore the tapered roller bearing idea. This would make a special bearing retainer necessary then. We were striving to use all factory type hardware. That would minimize the cost of retrofitting the aluminum cases to your application. The factory 308 bearing is a high load bearing so I don't see the retrofit to be worth it. We have tested them and I feel that they should hold up fine to whatever you can throw at them within reason.

That makes me really wanna go back to 4-speeds!
Shed some weight, retain the strength.

Great work!

Actually, we are only making them with a logo right now. It could be easily filed off though if you so desire.

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 06:09 PM

tom , nothing 10 minutes wit ha 7" angle grinder can't fix , hit it with a sand blaster after wards .

thanks jamie , i was thinking out loud , this is something i've been throwing around in my mid of doing .

i can get an billet steel front retainer so it would be to hard i think to have it modified slightly .

i am going to 308 bearings in my 23 spline anyway , but i need a new case for my hemi trans with the broken ear .

whats the warranty when you say "it will handle anything within reason" ? what do you consider within reason ??? a couple of the FAST hemi guys are making upward of 600 hp and running mid 11's ...

any chance you going to be tooling up a billet b body shift mount ...

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/03/03 06:23 PM

JohnRR,
I would warrany it behind 600 HP. I don't really plan in doing the B Body pad right now. We did the E Body more out or necessity than upgrade reason. We figured though, if we are going to make it, we might as well make the BEST! It is 7076 aluminum alloy. Boing aircraft material.

what he said ...

jamie , any reasoning for not making the b bod one ? do you have a boatload of originals ?

i'm in the process of whittling one out of 6061 , but if i could buy one made that won't snap off on a wild 2-3 shift ... hint ... hint ...

Jamie- I know the factory never made a 308 bearing a-body tailhousing, but is there any chance that you will? I wouldn't mind having one.

Very nice Jamie! Guy's, I bought my trans from Jamie after deciding not to chop on my car to fit a Keisler. He is anal about details which in the end gives you a fine product. His shipping and advice are first rate.

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/04/03 01:37 AM

Hi Jamie.

This looks like great stuff. Don’t forget that I signed up for an E-body tailhousing, as soon as the first batch is ready.

I have done 4-speed business, for some years now with Jamie, and I can only say he is a great guy, and can be trusted all the way.

DKTA.

Re: LONG AWAITED 4 SPEED ALUMINUM CASE PICS! - 06/04/03 12:51 PM

FIRST,
Let me thank all those happy customers (and other people that just saw the stuff) that took the time to write in with the good words. After all, that is what it is all about anyway. With enough money, anyone can make anything, but if you don't treat people right in business, you won't last long!
I have always believed this and will always practice it!

NOW, I am off my soap box. I am going to attempt to respond to everyone:

JohnRR,
I will certainly look into making some '66 - '69 B Body mount plates. We need to make another batch of E Body ones, so I will run it up the flagpole.

4406acuda,
Our A Body tailhousing is 308 bearing.

Scatpacktom,
I would like to offer a Moparts introductory price, however, if anyone has ever checked into an undertaking of this magnitude, I am sure that you realize the tooling costs. Actually, this is probably about as low as I can offer them and make anything. They turned out to be a little more expensive to produce than I originally figured. Sorry for the bad news! However, if you ever tried to locate an original, you would pay at least $250.00 for a main case that is bushed already. Keep in mind that that would be used. Ours are new, fresh and made of MUCH better material. Also, they are heat treated for strength, which to my knowledge, the originals were not.

STEFF,
We make main cases in 307 and 308 front bearing. All of our tailhousings are 308 bearing though.

If I missed anyone, sorry, repost a question and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely fashion.
Thanks,
Jamie
