Mr P-Body Mike Rafferty

Hi all, this is Lauren; Mike's wife. We lost Mike on Wednesday February 15th after a brief bout with Pancreatic Cancer. He put up a good fight in a losing battle. I will miss him but take comfort knowing he is no longer in pain. Rest in Peace my dear husband.

I'm so sorry to hear this, and FWIW offer my sympathy and respect.
Mike was something of an institution here, and I would guess in Life itself.
May he rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss. Mike was a great member of this board. He shared a lot of excellent knowledge with the rest of the members. You'll most likely have a lot of car parts and tools to deal with in the future. I'm sure that if you ask for help some local Moparts members will be happy to pitch in to help sort things out, or take items to swap meets for you.

So sorry to hear, I enjoyed listing to his accomplishments, insights then picking his brain.

Great guy to pit next to..lol..because he always had everything, and would give anyone the shirt off his back.

Mike always treated me right and I have good memories of him, mostly from around during the time period he was helping out Randy Borowski.

I remember helping him submit his info to get into the chassis dyno test one year at the dream cruise, thinking his car would help attract attention and
maybe it'd help that it was a Chrysler employee's vehicle. In the end it sounded like more trouble than it was worth, but he took it in stride.

Great guy to talk to at the track, or interact with here on the race board.

I admittedly didn't interact with him in the other areas of the board due to differences better overlooked than dwelled upon.
In hindsight, still Glad for that decision, and nothing but good memories remain.

Terribly sorry for your loss, Mike will be missed here.

this breaks my heart. I never met Mike in person but i did talk to him on here alot in the past. I just asked about him a few months back. I wish I knew he was sick. God rest his soul as his spirit will live on forever.

So sorry to hear this. I met Mike and his friends at Lapeer dragway one weekend where we got a new time on our cars. Very sad. Sorry for your loss. He will be missed here.

A quick story if I could. I didn't have a ton of interaction with Mike via the forum, as I'm not a racer. Over a couple of decades of hanging out here, I certainly read more than a few of his posts. But we had no direct interaction really.

Rolling the clock back a couple of decades, when Gary Davis was still with us, and a core group of Detroit area members would get together socially on a fairly regular basis. One summer, we planned a Detroit area Moparts members get-together at Stony Creek. I was quite excited about it, and got Tom's permission to have this banner made for the event. Food prepared, coolers filled, ready for a great day, and it did nothing but pour down rain overnight and into the morning, with just the occasional break long enough to keep a glimmer of hope alive that we might still have some members show up. With great optimism, I headed to Stony, and staked out our spot.

No one was there. But Mike showed up. It became clear no one else was coming (and didn't). But you know what....Mike stayed there with me for maybe 30 minutes, under an easy up, with sporadic rain, talking Mopars, work, families and hobbies.

Mike could have turned around as soon as he entered the empty parking lot, and never gotten out of his car. Instead he spent a half an hour with a total stranger in the rain. I always appreciated that more than he probably ever knew.

Mr P was a VERY talented individual. He wss always a fun guy to learn from and very generous in sharing his vast knowledge. RIP Mr. Raff and sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Rest assured, I (Lauren, his wife) have been checking back periodically to see all your posts and reading your memories. I'm so happy he's being remembered with such love and respect.

one of the [many] tips and ideas i "stole" from Mr. P. was the deal of cutting header flanges between the tubes and opening up the bolt holes a drill size or two.
this allowed even the thinnest of flanges to seal and have the seal last.
