Wiper switch continuity chart

Wiper switch continuity chart - 08/29/15 04:50 PM

Has anyone seen a continuity chart for the 3 speed wiper switch anywhere?
I have two to choose from and would like to test before installation.

This for a 70 Charger.

Thanks, Joe

what I'd do (if you cant find a schematic) is ohm each lead & that'd give me an idea of which ones to put fire to to check function. (obviously any that have continuity directly to ground you would not power them up). I know one has power all the time after you rotate it off, to make it park. otherwise here's a BTT for ya

I have 7 terminals on the back of my switches, two are joined with a resistor.

I'm trying to find continuity or no on each terminal with the switch in
each of the three (four) positions

Neither corresponds to the FSM, what switches are these for, a delay/intermittent wiper?

Part#2864 014-2389? 3219

Thanks,Joe

Hi Joe,

What you have, a 2864014, is a three speed wiper switch for a 68 - 70 B body with the bright chrome knob without any delay/intermittent capability. The washer push button switch is tied to the B/U terminal on the wiper switch that powers the pump motor.

I will post some information tomorrow to help you test your switches and you are correct that the FSM is vague on how the middle speed actually works.

The middle speed is done through resistance on one of the two brown w/ white stripe wires connected to the A terminal, the wire length buried in the harness, then returns to the R1 terminal to create the right amount of resistance for the medium speed.

The resistor on the side of the switch creates the resistance for the high speed.

I've had just too much Mopar fun for one day. up

Thanks Jim, I was starting to doubt I had the right switches.
I knew I took one of them out of the dash when we bought this basket case.

Never had wiring or other parts to see what worked or not.

Anxiously awaiting your help, really appreciate your time and expertise.

Joe

PS., do you know the Ohms I need for the jumper?

Hi Joe,

Here is the information for you to test your two switches. Hope this helps.

High Speed Position:
B to F1 (-28 Ohms {Resistance Through Switch Resistor})
A to F1 (-28 Ohms {Resistance Through Switch Resistor})
B to A (0 Ohms)
F2 to Chassis Ground (0 Ohms)

Medium Speed Position:
B to F1 (-10 Ohms {Resistance Only Through Dash Harness Brown* Wire via R1})
A to F1 (-10 Ohms {Resistance Only Through Dash Harness Brown* Wire via R1})
B to A (0 Ohms)
F2 to Chassis Ground 0 Ohms

Low Speed Position:
B to F1 (0 Ohms)
A to F1 (0 Ohms)
B to A (0 Ohms)
F2 to Chassis Ground (0 Ohms)

OFF position:
B to P (0 Ohms)
A to F2 (0 Ohms)
F1 to Chassis Ground (0 Ohms)

Internal Circuit Breaker:
B to B/U (Always 0 Ohms Regardless of Speed Selection or Off)
