Well got the dyno numbers today! 500 foot pounds of torque an 458 hp at 3600 rpm. Not to shabby. So hopefully in a few weeks I will have that baby running the GTX and not that fan. Thanks for the comments.

Well finally got the motor and transmission in! Here are some pics of it in the car. Anyone got a good line on great spark plug wires to go with my MSD ignition and distributor. Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

I love MSD wires. Have them on both of my old Mopars. I can't remember the name of them...

Re: My 72 Road Runner GTX Project - 12/21/11 01:54 PM

I lived in Hawaii in the '70's and '80's and I remember a Honolulu cop drove one of these. I couldn't imagine trying to outrun one of those then or now. But of course there was the element of living on an island and there is only so much road to get away on.

Thanks! Yes I found one. I just have to get it dyed to the correct color. I know what you mean about only so far I can run on this island, but I could give them fits for a little while any way.

Re: Some recent updates - 12/23/11 05:44 AM

Im curious to see where you placed your trunk road runner and gtx emblems..I have seen four or five ORIGINAL paint 72 GTXs and those eblems were in a different place on every single one of them...Im putting my GTX emblem in the lower right corner of the deck lid with the circle decal to its immeadiate left...Ive seen that X eblem in 5 different spots so far..Our cars are identical..Im curious on how close they were built...??
Here is mine right after paint.

Re: x emblem - 12/23/11 05:54 AM

I think the top pic and bottom black car are the proper locations but I have a photo of MY car when it was new and the X emblem is to the right of the circle but BOTH are at least another two inches towards the key hole...VERY STRANGE INDEED..

P.S. Let me know if you need parts...Im in possession of a lot for these cars..

Re: x emblem - 12/23/11 06:25 AM

Here is a diagram from my 72 Parts Catalog. It shows it above the Road Runner. I hope this helps.

Re: x emblem - 12/23/11 02:00 PM

My GTX has it just like the first picture.

Re: x emblem - 12/24/11 01:22 AM

To throw in another dilema I have several pics of original paint cars that have the GTX fender emblems not only in different locations in the same area BUT like on my car the one on the right fender was at least 6 inches HIGHER than on the left fender..Ive seen this on several original 72 GTXs...

Re: x emblem - 12/27/11 05:40 AM

I know that car!
Here are some more opinions about the 72’ “GTX” badges and that diagram in the 72’ parts book.
Tom, there are some borrowed shots of your car in that thread as well.

Re: x emblem - 12/28/11 08:54 AM

MY fender GTX emblems in my factory paint photos show the pass side emblem 5 inches higher than the drivers side...Ive seen it that way on two other orig paint cars too....I dont think there was a standard but just an area they were supposed to be...

Re: x emblem - 01/30/12 11:22 PM

I don't think the yellow RR/GTX is an original paint car. It appears to have a 71' Strobe Stripe. If this was put on by a previous owner, there's no telling what else was altered, or if it is indeed even an original RR/GTX. For what it's worth, mine is the same as pic 1&4

Its a correct 72 Strobe

Re: x emblem - 02/03/12 03:55 AM

My mistake. I was looking at the spacing between the segments and they looked wide like the 71' stripe! The 72' Strobe has more segments and was available on Road Runners only. The GTX option could not get the Strobe. It could have been added by an owner and that's my point. Modified car.

Re: x emblem - 02/03/12 04:46 PM

Road Runner strobe for 71 has the running bird in the bottom segment..Plus It looks as if it does not come down as far on the quarter as a 72..
