71 GTX barn find without a barn - 07/28/10 09:45 AM

Hi Everybody,

My name is Jan and I run a small classic car shop in the Netherlands. My main business is building Mopar engines and transmissions for anything from the early 50's till late 70's.
I saw the project part of the forum and could not let you guys miss this.

In spring this year I got a call from a guy that told me he needed money and wanted to sell me his car.
I told him I could use some money myself but if he told me what it was and what he wanted for it I could see what I could do.

He says: It's a 71 GTX
Me: real or clone
He: real, 440-4 GTX with console

So I asked him what he was asking. Let's forget about the numbers but I ended up paying about double of what I paid for my POS 97 Dodge Caravan.

Has been sitting under a tree for about 5 years. All Chrome as new. Only bit of rust it has is the battery tray, rest is rock solid.

We are going to strip it and restore it. Will post more as soon as we start.

Here's a picture.

Greetings from the Netherlands

Welcome Jan! That's would be quite a find here in the states but the fact you found in the Netherlands makes the find that much cooler. Can't wait to follow the build on it. Please post pics and updates as you go along.

Jan,

Something like that is well worth mortgaging the house and (if necessary) the wife as well. You're in the Netherlands ..... correct? Like in northern Europe? So how did a machine like that make its way to your neck of the woods?

Congrats on the car! I'd love to hear the story of how it got over there too. Looks like a good day of cleaning would do wonders. Keep up the posts!
