Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/06/09 02:21 AM

Slowly the plans for the Road Ruiner have come together.
It started at Norwalk Ohio, Meeting GREAT people and having fun. I got to do this. So I had a spare 440 and bought a Road Runner shell

It started simply but kinda grew to be more than planned. "well since you are planning on going faster in the future, we may as well:
- add a dana
- upgrade the fuel system
- add a 10 point cage

What was I thinking... Procharger!
- bought a used D1X Procharger on Ebay, (and I saw how nice the Stig Jrs Road Runner ran)
- Since you are boosting , should go to EFI
- A mega block is a good idea. Sod the 440 bought a 500 inch
- Better upgrade the fuel system again
- add a motor plate
- etc etc

Having collected a lot of parts and the street strip car is coming together.

This is where it sits today and I will work backwards.

(I am glad I have a great and tolerant wife)

Sounds like you are having fun.
At least you are smart enough to make changes AS you build.
I rethink everything AFTER I`m done.

Here is the mock up of the Engine prior to bodywork You can see the intercooler sits low so there is still good air flow for the Radiator

Here is the Air Plumbing and EFI mocked up
Using a victor intake predrilled for EFI. I changed my mind on the elbow for the throttle body and got a low profile version. It was too short and I had to add a spacer to fit between the throttle body and the intake. The whole set up fits almost under a stock hood.

You can see the blow-off mounted to the intercooler.

Fiberglass Bumpers (with a ton of work to make the right, ) I will open up the area where the license plate normally goes for additional air flow.

ANYONE need a roadrunner hood 5 inch scoop?

Re: Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/06/09 02:48 AM

Here is the earlier mock-up You can see the engine plate bars and the other bar protruding thru the inner fender, Prior to bodywork.
You may also see the marker lines for the modified show tower, The engine is back and lower about 1 inch. This helps with the fans, pulleys etc foe the procharger,

It can get tight up front.

There is a lot more room in front of the radiator in a Dodge charger versus the road runner That would have been handy with an intercooler

Thanks, we meet in Carlisle this year as well,

She will be silver (bright chrysler silver) as you may see in the pictures of the engine bay above. The paint work was poor and had to all come off. but there were more changes than planned and the paint had to be redone anyways

Looking awesome. Robbie, I am thinking about starting to collect parts. Where did you find your mounting brackets? What compression are your slugs?
Posted By: Kam*Kuda

Re: Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/06/09 04:08 AM

Hey Rick

Mark had some mounting brackets he made for the passenger side that he lent me.
The guy who does some chassis work for me is doing the brackets.

The engine is a newer Mopar 500 crate engine with 10.5 compression, stock Eddy heads and a small roller cam (really small) Should be all done by 5000 rpm

I plan to run the engine with out the procharger this year and then get new coated slugs, have Dwayne spec a cam and do some head work.

Thanks for the comments.

It was the first time in Norwalk that got me hooked and I had to be part of it. Great Great people, running fast and I did not meet anyone with a big ego... they were all having fun.
like firefighter, fast yeti, labrat, p body, 10secgtx, 72rallycharger, Goreski, Stig Jr, Doctor Doug, Blown GTX, and loads more.

Rear suspension is ladder bar. Some of the parts were with the car in when I bought it in mid build.

Very nice rob! What headers, mufflers and exhaust are you going to run?

Re: Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/06/09 06:25 PM

Thanks Fran. I am taking your advice and easing into the driving. (no procharger 1st year)

Tom, I have TTi headers and 3.5 exhaust with X pipe down to 3 inch at the mufflers . Ron gave me some 3 inch dynomax mufflers and I will drop down the size near the mufflers.

The shock tower on the passenger side was modified to allow that header to be removed. With the engine lower and back further, some changes had to be made.

Now I will need a driveshaft and we will see what else is required.

Rob,

I assume you know that swapping the Procharger from left to right side of the engine as you have means you need a new (reverse rotation) Procharger....

It will still be standard rotation It would be reverse if I turned it around and it faced the other way

Plan grow? In a 68 Charger body. Well, I started with intentions of 4150 carbed pump gas 451" EZ head low deck, 4spd, caltracs and maybe a Dana 60. Right now, I have a dry sump 505" with B1 Originals on E85, 9" Ford, ladder bars, tube K member and 6spd T56. And waiting on Big stuff EFI and a turbo. I've changed everything but the body, which now has a 12pt cage in it.

Awesome project you have. It's comforting to see insanity is so widespread S/F....Ken M

Yep

Now get rid of those cheezy chrome valvecovers and install the ICH cast covers that somebody gave you

Re: Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/03/10 03:27 PM

It is starting to look like a car again. Some Black it softening up all the red,

I don't know if it is just me but trying to find all the parts again has been a bit of a struggle. My shop is not at my house, so I have parts in both places. Yikes

Thanks. The hood is much taller but the quality is really very decent. I think I may try to fab an air cleaner assembly for the hood scoop instead of the just the existing air tube to the rad support

Re: Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/03/10 04:40 PM

Here is where the air tube goes now, so the hood scoop is truly now functional right now,

I may have to change this

Re: Progress Pics Procharged Runner. Ever had plan GROW! - 12/14/10 03:38 PM

Currently, it is a 500 inch with box rpm heads and a tiny roller cam. Mild

Here are the specs on the procharger

Procharger D1X Specs:
Max CFM: 1900
Max Boost: 32psi
Max Impeller RPM: 58,000
Outlet ID: 2.62"
Outlet Hose Diameter: 3.00"
Impeller Exducer Dia: 6.6"
Inducer Diameter: 4"
Inlet Hose Diameter: 4.25"
Compressor Housing Diameter: 9.75"
Internal Step up: 4.44:1

It is capable of making more but I am looking at the 800hp area with about 12-14 lbs of boost.
We will see if the intercooler is up to the job.

I am running without the procharger for the coming year. Only so much $$$ available. You can see the procharger mocked up on the first page.

It is a mopar crate short block that will be reworked for better parts and the blower pistons later

- thick wall, siamesed-bore, cross-bolted engine block

It starts, it runs

Spent the day chasing issues,
Fuel Leak, Oil leaks, Tranny Leaks.
Idle was at 2200.

Sorry about the odd sound quality (camera phone), but it starts and runs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOpJQZCffTA

Started and found an exhaust heaqder leak LOL, This thing has been leaking more than a over full diaper

I have some efi tuning to learn. :
