70 Sport Satellite, big block, survivor - 06/11/09 10:13 PM

Last year I bought a 1970 Plymouth Sport Satellite. 39,000 original miles. Un-restored Oregon car. Matching numbers 383 2-bbl, H.D 727 transmission and 8 ¾ non-suregrip rearend. Interior like new! Paint is original with the exception of the passenger side ¼ panel and the drivers side fender. Those areas were painted 28 years ago by the original owner due to minor parking lot dings . The rest of the car still retains the original paint, gator grain top and has the original body panels. Im torn between selling this one to buy a new 09 Challenger RT Classic edition and just keeping this one forever...:) If you want to see some pics, I have them uploaded on snapfish here: http://www2.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=592318024/a=616406024_616406024/

Wouldnt let me register to look at the pics. But id say keep that, how often do you find a survivor vs a new still produced challenger.

Sorry about that, I did not realize that you had to register to just view them. I will work at putting them up here. The files are to big so I need to downsize them. Thanks!

yea i would not sell that car. i have two of them and enjoy them very much. one is a two door and the other a 4 door. very rare cars but not as desirable as RR or GTX. i enjoy having something different. post pics please.

You'll be able to find a new Challenger anytime you want to for the next few years. If you sell your Plymouth, you won't be able to replace it with something similiar without a long hunt and more $$$$.

My pics are saved as ACDSEE version 3.0, cant seem to downsize them for posting. Will have to take more with my camera, used the wife's and the pics are WAY to large. Like 2.56MB each.

Oh Yeah! I wouldn't trade that straight across for a new Challenger. No way, no how.
New Challenger will drive nicer but doesn't have 1/10 of the class this car does.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. I really do love the car and your right, will most likely never find another like it. Ill hang onto it and maybe find a used Chally in a year or so. Let me ask you guys this, the car still has the stock single exhaust, would I be killing the "survivor" status putting on a dual? I'd like to keep it mostly original but there are a couple minor leaks (small holes) in the system. I have the kit (full 2.5") and the GTX tips in my basement. Debating weather or not to install them....

Well you can always go back to a single exhaust. Maybe keep the single so you can have a new single system built if you ever decide to go back. Just an idea. Glad to see you are keeping it

I would put the dual exhaust on it.

Re: 70 Sport Satellite, big block, survivor - 06/15/09 05:03 AM

The stock exhaust is going to need to be replaced, regardless, period. At that point, the "survivor" status goes out the window anyways, as I understand, so it doesn't really matter. I'd run dual, myself, but I had a customer a few years ago when I was doing exhaust who had a 73 440 New Yorker and to keep his collector plate status could NOT put dual exhaust on it, as it didn't come with it (I believe in in 72 they still had it, but not in 73). He wanted a little moreOOMPH. So, we ran 2.25" to the "Y" and then ran a 3" single the rest of the way. Kept his insurance company happy, and satisfied his performance but enough.

Oh yeah, I know it's pointless, as it seems you have made your decision, but Sheldon's got it on the $. The Chally is a new car that looks like it'll be around for a few, AND will start to depreciate, whereas the Sat is gonna hold steady at worst, and possibly increase. You can always buy a DD Challenger later!

I parted out the twin to your car a couple years ago....frame/unibody was shot...always thought it must have looked great when new...your pictures prove it did. Keep that one!!!

You will like the sound of dual exhaust just keep the single if you want to go back but I agree with 4speeds the the pipe would be changed regardless so go for it. Good for you on keeping the car.

Re: 70 Sport Satellite, big block, survivor - 06/18/09 09:54 PM

you're thinking of selling that beauty?
The new Challys are nice, but I'd take your car any day.
as far as the duals, just stash the original exhaust(if it's worth keeping). You'll like the duals.
and that car is every bit as nice as a road runner or GTX

Wow, what a beauty!

LOVE the colors. I wouldn't hesitate to put the duals on, myself.

Cheers,

It's great to see a 70 Satellite that hasn't turned into a RR/GTX clone.

Great looking car!

I think you'd be MUCH happier in a NEW Challenger..... dump it now before the value goes down any further!

PM me with what you want for it?????

Keep the Satellite

You can always find a newer Challenger at some point.

Re: 70 Sport Satellite, big block, survivor - 05/20/11 05:26 AM

If you are talking about an SRT8 Challenger, I say go for the Challenger. You can never replace the Satellite but it will never be a musclecar. The Satellite is just a nice antique. You can get just as much enjoyment or more out of an SRT8 if you can afford one.

Definitely keep it (unless you want to sell it to me ). Save up for a depreciated Challenger and have the best of both worlds!
