1967 Sport Fury Convertible Factory H-code 383 4bbl Resto

So It Begins, my stepfathers 1967 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible restoration. I know what you are thinking..... wait you guys are starting another project, what about the Charger. Well the '66 Charger project has been put on hold since about September.

The Car- The car is a 1967 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible with a factory "H" code 383 4bbl Hi-Po engine with power windows, power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. The car was built November 10th, 1966 (B10 on tag) at the Belvidere IL assembly plant. We are not sure if it is a numbers matching drive-train and transmission. See attached picture of fender tag.....

The History- We honestly do not know any of the history before my stepfather's ownership. The car however used to have a black bucket with "buddy" seat interior with a power drivers seat, and black top. The car also used to be a column shift with tilt-a-scope steering, and the original exterior color was SS-1 Yellow. The car had 1966 disc brake wheel covers and a Ford right hand mirror and was already painted the current blue color when my stepfather purchased it in 2003, the car was bought off of Ebay from Enid Oklahoma site unseen.

When my stepdad got the car he reupholstered the interior to how it is today the way he wanted it, light blue with a 3 spoke steering wheel and center console. He also put a white top on with a glass back window in instead of black with a plastic back "window". Now, before everyone scolds him on why would he do that blah blah blah I just want everyone to know he does not like black interiors on convertibles. He also does not really care for black tops on blue cars, and he wanted to make it to how he would have ordered it back in 1967.

The Plan- The plan is to redo the bodywork, repaint the car in CC-1 Medium Blue Poly, repaint the engine, and put better chrome on the car. My "personal" plan is to hopefully document the progress, and make an album of the car being done and sharing it on here when I have time.

The body and paint work are going to be done by a friend of a friend who we met in Carlisle 2020.

It's disassembly time! At the rate we are going right now, we could probably have the car to the body and paint shop maybe this weekend. The disassembly first started on March 26th.....

For disassembly we started with the under hood then the headlight bezels then grille.....

its been awhile since I posted progress on the ole convertible project, I been busy with work and other projects around the house lately. Great progress is being made on the ole' car. Here are some more pictures, some of these were taken on March 29 and some March 30th 2021. The back bumper will stay on the car until it gets to our body and paint guy. We plan to drive it to the body guy as it is about an hour away from our house. More photos to come......

Engine photo time, we didn't take much off here just a couple air conditioning things because we still gotta drive the car to the paint guy. Notice the original yellow paint where the hood insulation was in the 1st and 3rd pictures.....

A pretty thorough switch to the blue color. Surprising they didn't remove the hood pad.

Which color are you going with this time?

While it is kind of tempting to go back to original and paint the car the original color yellow, my stepdad already has his mind made up on the blue. That's one of the reasons he bought the car in the first place, he loves the blue because he wanted something different. I too like the yellow with a white top but I like blue A LOT more too though. To me yellow is ok but it's not really too eye catching as blue. Yeah they did everything half ass on this car it seems, it looked good in certain light you know a good 10-20 footer but when you got close to it the imperfections would show.

I'm back with a bit of updates on the ol' convertible project, after a month from bringing the car to our body and paint guy it is finally getting somewhere. Body sanding has finally begun. This picture was taken May 7th......

Right hand quarter panel stud dent pulling, and a new right hand door is sandblasted. We decided to use the door below we had as a spare we were trying to sell. All pictures were taken May 15th.....

Not bad at all no, but wait till you see the left side quarter panel coming soon. Lets just say another one from WildCat Mopars had to be ordered.....
