triple black 1971 duster wedge clone

triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 03/29/09 04:27 PM

A while back I was asking what color to go with on my 71 duster wedge clone and after hearing what you guys were telling me to go with I decided to go black and I'm glad I did. Here's a few pictures I'll add more as I go through it. I'm getting ready to paint the hood, trunk lid and one of my fenders, still looking for nice drivers side one and sharktooth grill. I'll then detail the underside and the drive train. Should be a cool little driver.

I think you'd be real wise to stick with those nice clones and get rid of that heap with the hole in the hood and no top. Those cars are worthless now!

Duster is looking awesome. 71 340 Dusters are my favorite A-body. I had a Burnt orange one with buckets, console. Wish I would have kept that car.

Thanks, I plain on going with body color black steel rims with a set of polyglas white lettered 14" tires on it with a new set of dog dish hub caps. New carpet and new headliner, package tray and drivers side seat cover.

I'm guessing it was a vinyl top car and the top was "deleted"? It still has the trim on the lower front windshield pillars. Are those 70 style A body buckets?

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 03/30/09 02:55 AM

I was just going to ask the same thing about the vinyl top trim near the front windshield.

And yes, those are 70 Seats -- same seats I have in mine! I like them better then the 71's with the inserts

Gorgeous Duster though man, please post pics with the 340 wedge hood!

The Duster looks great. I have been kicking around the idea of triple black on mine also. After seeing how good yours looks, I am sold. Truely a sweet looking ride.

It's a 70 duster that I'm doing up like a 71 v24 duster(wedge 340 callout on the hood with black hood treatment) that's why is has the chrome on the piller like the vinyl top cars do. It seperates the satin black from the gloss black. It's actually a good way to tell the clones from the real ones, I thought it was a nice little touch to add since I had them kicking around. I'm been trying to decide if I want to change the seat covers over to the 71 style as I like the style of these ones as well. I thought hounds tooth would look pretty cool in it but these ones actually match the car alittle better with the dark grey inserts. I was doing this car up to sell to get the extra money to pay off a small loan and finish my charger but I think I'll just sell my 79 ramcharger instead as I dont think I'm going to be able to get rid of it. Thanks for all the nice comments .

That's funny, I based my Duster off of that same ad!

As for the seat covers, I think an orange/black interior would be insanely bad [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean] in that car! Triple black with orange interior, way too cool!

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 04/02/09 08:12 PM

did you paint that Organsol?

That looks very very nice! The plymouth emblem on the front of the hood will set it off -- no hood pins from the looks of it?

Very nice car man!

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 04/02/09 08:24 PM

Thanks, I ordered a new plymouth emblem, broke the old one in half taking it off and I'll add the hood pins a little later after it's all together.

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 04/02/09 08:30 PM

I've used organsol and it's a really hard to clean after so I went with SEM trim black instead. It's really easy to touch up and you can clean it with a rag.

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 04/06/09 02:39 AM

What color is the side stripe. It is hard to see if it is gray, silver or white.
How is the 79 Ramcharger looking?
Posted By: 4speeds4me

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 04/06/09 03:14 AM

The stripe is flat or satin black...hence the "triple black". Black paint, black interior, black graphics. And BAD!
Posted By: CuriousYella70

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 04/06/09 06:59 AM

The side stripe on any black car is "matte" black -- or generally they are.

Hi Ron, the ramcharger is coming along nicely. Ordered a bunch of stuff for it, new carpet, found a mint set of 79 bucket seats for it, nos se emblems, new set of tires, new front and rear bumpers and the paint buffed out real nicely. Should be ready to roll for the summer.

Re: triple black 1971 duster wedge clone - 06/19/09 03:07 PM

Not much going on with the duster lately, I've been busy with my new ice cream shop I've opened up. Fenders and grill are next on my list. I've got the front end all detailed and back together under it. Will post some more pictures of it as soon as I get out there working on it . The little hours I do go up to the garage I've been tinkering on this beater. It was a 73 dart sunroof car that I'm turning into a demon. Should be a blast to drive around as I wont have to worry about it getting dinged up or cratched. I just put the vinyl top on it in a matter of 10min (lol). Came out great for being a vinyl top for a charger. I need a wider seam for a sunroof car so the seams wouldnt end up in the middle of the opening for the sunroof and my charger vinly top I had kicking around worked out great for it. I've since added the sizzler hood stripe and all the demon decals. I'm going to try and find the hood scoop for it at Carlisle.

Just took off the used polyglas tires and put four brand new ones on it. The old ones wouldn't hold air(they'll make for a great spare). I'm going to work on the fenders this weekend and see if I get those ready to paint. I'm going to have it ready for Carlisle next year so you'll see it there .
