B7 Blue Swinger. Shop find? Wait... B5 GTS - 04/03/20 09:52 PM

I have been itching to build a 340 car, and I finally came across one I liked with the right price on it. I am trying to keep the budget down on this one, and I'm trying to do it the way that I started out doing my black Super Bee. With everyone's leftover stuff. When I first laid eyes on the car it was stuffed in the corner of a shop, on flat tires, surrounded by stuff so I couldn't get to it. But I wasn't impressed.
Once it got pulled out of the shop, I was much more into the car. It's basic, (I wanted a GTS, but this one is cool), B7, bench seat, 4 speed, very little else. I've been running across quite a few deals so far, so hopefully the only things I will have to buy new are brakes, lines, fuel system, wiring and engine necessities(rings, bearings, gasktes, cam, lifters, etc.)
Because it's a Dart, many parts are coming from Rhino, as one would expect, including the '69 340 block and a lot of metal. It had a '71 HP 383 in it with a 727, which I was able to sell to a friend for enough to buy a block from Jim. I also got a crank and a good flywheel in on the deal. I'll try to keep this moving along with the progress, but I got away from parts hunting for a bit to get my Bee ready for summer.

The way the lighting is in the last pic, the dart looks like it was photoshopped into place. work

What I looked at the day I bought it. It's a pretty solid car.

Very cool, what are your plans? Restore or get running? I have 3 69 340 swingers and am into them....my last one I got had butchered fender wells also. Fixing everyone's butchering takes some time sometimes. Neat car you got.

Fun project! I'd love to have a 4-speed car someday.

Nice find thumbs Also curious if it will be all factory stock, or day two look? Good luck with it!

I need to get back out to the guy's place, but he is moving and I'm not sure if the virus crazyness has effected his plans.

Well, my plans unexpectedly changed.
Let me explain.
When I bought this car, I was trying to buy back a car I bought from Moparts' own Rhinodart back in '11 or so. Still being in contact with the owner of the GTS, I floated out the idea of doing a trade for my former B5 GTS and my current B7 Swinger. Floating a $250 boot in front of him, I reached a deal, and the Swinger left and my long lost GTS came home.
Now, the plan is the same. I'm going to get it running and driving and enjoy it. Ironically enough, the GTS had fenderwell headers at one time, and the entire front doghouse has been replaced, poorly, with another. One of the couple of reasons the trade was so attractive to the other guy. The Swinger "looks" more bolt-together ready.
The Swinger on the way out.

Initially the GTS will be built with mostly stock stuff as I can find it. I have a '73 340 block that was all standard bore except for #7 that has a wrist pin scratch in it. So as long as it can hone out alright in 1-6 and 8, I'll sleeve 7 and use the factory rods/10.5:1 pistons I have in it. I have a set of bare X-heads, I picked up some 2.02/1.60 valves for a song, and I got a stock '69 intake for cheap as well. I have a bellhousing(wrong year, it's '72 and up), transmission, driveshaft, found a deal on a new, unused clutch, traded into a resurfaced 130 tooth flywheel, and got a bunch of parts off of Jim.
I have a '69 340 block, but it is .060 over and may end up getting a 4" stroke crank and some other choice parts. But for right now, I'm putting it together as cheap and fast as I can. I'll make it better looking and quicker later.

Great score man, you've hit a nerve with me on this car. I did get very first car (my Duster) back, but I've loved other cars... and this one I have a soft spot for. I know you remember my 340 4 spd Dart (you had a black one?)

I don't remember your car. It looks well used. Lol. I had a F3 GTS that was painted primer black about 10 years ago.
