72 Satellite, southern AZ car, solid as you'll ever find. Has 71 fenders and tail lights. Drug it home yesterday.

Current plans are to get it back together and properly titled -- probably a satin black paint job, polished Torq Thrust IIs, 400 or 440 (nothing wild). It has a dismantled title -- I have to get it back on the road and go through inspection to get a good title back on it. I'm just in the early stages of collecting parts now -- it probably won't see the road for a year.

Re: A Teaser... - 10/16/13 04:20 AM

Are you going to use tape of staples to put the title back together?

It looks like it was originally A4. Great color. I hope it goes back to that color some day. Good luck with it!

Re: '72 Satellite Becoming a '71 RR "Clone" - 11/02/13 04:59 AM

Ok...starting to dig into this thing now. The "right" coast guys are gonna hate, cuz haters gonna hate.

Car was originally bought in Tucson and bounced back and forth between Tucson and Phoenix its entire life, so I'm told. It's definitely a southwest desert car...99% rust free. I drug it home from south of Tucson. Originally a 318 car. Plan is a big block...either a 400 or 440, of which I have both.

Previous owner knew it had a 8.75 sure grip of sorts in it, possibly a spool...someone has definitely put some time and money into the rear, but I haven't dropped the pig yet to see what carrier it is. I did the "spin the wheels and count the yoke revolutions" the other day and it appears to have 3.91's in it.

So, without further ado, here are some pics of what I'm starting with.

Ty sir.

The plan is to get some more blasting done today...hopefully the entire front clip minus the suspension -- those will get done when I pull it all off the car to do a disc brake swap (it has 4-wheel drums now). The inner fenders and firewall should go pretty quick -- the old paint is blasting off very easily.

Re: '72 Satellite Becoming a '71 RR "Clone" - 11/03/13 05:08 AM

Did some more blasting today, but no pics to share. The blaster was giving me fits, so I spent some of the afternoon taking apart the sand dispenser...found some curly-q thread looking thing stuck in the ball valve. By the time I got it all put back together light was fading fast, so I wrapped it up for the day.

I did blast a bit on the driver side floor and found some very minor rot. Deciding what to do as they are very small holes...I don't want to replace the whole pan, but don't want to do a cob job either. When we did my daughter's Barracuda, we filled a couple of small holes with lead...you'd never know by looking at it. We'll see.

LOL...unfortunately, that hood didn't come with the car. That was a pic I got from the seller before I picked up the car. Going with a air grabber or maybe even stock Satty hood.

Not much new to report -- just been blasting. Hope to have paint on the floors, door jambs, underhood, and trunk by mid-December.

Cool car.

Very solid which is what makes life alot nicer! I really love the wheels, can they be saved? think about the color choice as you only really have one shot to do it right (underside, jambs, eng. compartment and trunk). I really like gold with black trim, but it's a blank canvass

Thanks Dave -- the TQ's didn't come with the car -- I tried! I am going to run TQ IIs on it though. Already have the 15x10s on the back -- looking for a set of fronts now.

Color-wise, I'm going FK5 or a close variant. How many deep burnt orange 71/72 RR's or Sattys have you ever seen? I think I saw one, once! FK5 with black roof & B-pillar stripes are the plan. Haven't decided if the bumpers are going to be painted yet. It will also have black front spoilers and a black Air Grabber. I think it's going to look pretty badass when it is done.

FK5 is another one of my favorites; that'd look great!
