I am super lucky that I started with a rust free car - I couldnt even imagine dealing with the level of rust you guys are... Crazy !!!

Basically my car just needed a couple guide coats and its ready for paint. The car is rolling on 4 casters now, so I'll get a couple more current pics posted soon.

Re: JS23UOE - D21, FC7 - 01/24/12 08:56 PM

Well, that is certainly one of the nicest I've seen from the pics. What was the trunk like? So there was NO rust? not even a spec on the lower fenders, trunk floor, hood hinge mount, rear quarters behind the wheels, rear window channel?

I wouldn't paint the inside of the car; too cool the way it is!

AHA! then I was right; no such thing as a 100% rust free Mopar!

J/K, that is one heck of a car.....doesn't even look like the engine compartment needs paint..

Having a car like that to start with must be a huge treat!

Only the green survior w/o rust This R/T has ZERO rust, not now or ever! Car came from Lancaster Ca, mostly original paint (passenger fender repaint), 55K miles w/mint original interior,

actually if someone didnt squirt black on it back in the 80's, I really could have almost cleaned the engine compartment, maybe used a little rubbing compound and called it a day,,,

Re: JS23UOE - D21, FC7 - 01/25/12 06:03 AM

Now that was a GREAT car to start with! Much better than having a made in Tawain patchwork quilt!

And DaveP, my old FK5 'Cuda was as clean as this Challenger, but it had a little lower window corner rust too under the gator top

How is this for a trunk floor? (see, they're not all rust buckets )

Why a treat! Those guys out there are used to those rust free cars. Now to us guys in the North, that would be a REAL TREAT!!!!!!!!!

Great car, keep posting pics!!

Here's one, extremely rust free for where it's been its whole life! Then again it only has 35k miles and hasn't been on the road since '77!!!!!! Original FE5, red shaker, 440-6, 4spd/console, 3.54 dana, ralley dash, completely #'s matching, mint B/S, original belts/hoses. Two color changes, then a third change started (newspapers taped over the rear bumper dated July 3rd and 4th 1983!) by the only titled original owner, who sold it in '85.

Maybe it is the missing bolt on the clutch bracket to the main brake frame.

Anyone have any thoughts how those screws could have got there??
This is a low mileage car - so not sure if the dealer would have done that for some customer complaint or ???

Re: JS23UOE - D21, FC7 - 01/31/12 10:25 PM

heres another shot showing some weird piece of orange rubber hose that looks like was used as a buffer or to soften the thud of the clutch ??

I think you would have a hard time getting it clean.
If you strip it off take tons of pics so if you re-apply
you can get it correct.

Re: JS23UOE - D21, FC7 - 10/25/14 04:58 PM

first off, thats a real nice ride and congrats for being able to have a car like that in your shop. my la built cuda was in similar shape when i got it with just a repaint and engine rebuild so original paint was gone from motor. That challenger is consistent with the details that came on LA built ebodies and just reinforces a lot of what has been documented on these cars that came from that plant. it still baffles me why the factory made that notch in the inner fender where the z-bar mounts to the bracket on the frame rail. i believe hamtramck manual cars did not have that.
