My '69 Roadrunner project - 01/23/12 01:05 AM
I'm well into my Roadrunner project and thought I would start a thread about my project, so here goes....
What I started with...(I'm going to edit in a better "what I started with pic")

And this is what looks like after disassembly.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 01/24/12 04:47 PM
I have the car back on jackstands now, cause I'm replacing both 1/4 panels, interior patch panels, trunk floor & extensions, dutchman panel, package tray, and roof skin. The car is a 383/auto, b5 blue, black vinyl top, and blue interior. The plan is to paint the exterior black and change the interior to black also or leave it blue (haven't made my mind up on the interior yet). It will stay an auto and I already have that finished. I just haven't bought a torque convetor yet. I bought a 3.91 third member and its ready to install. The motor will be a 451 stroker. The short block is finished with a 509 MP cam and will be purchasing a set of aluminum heads from 440 Source or Eldebrock next. The car will be mini-tubbed with aftermarket wheels. I would like a set of Bogart wheels, but I don't think they're street legal if not probably a set from Centerline, the convo(sp?) pros? Anyway it will look stock other than the wheels and motor. Also I do have the original motor and trans from the car shoved up in the corner of my garage.
I will try and post some more pics later cause I have made a little progress, I'm just a little slow on the car and this computer.
I will try and post my progress on 69 Roadrunner.net also, but It seems I always have to resize my pics when I do and like I said I'm not real fast on this computer stuff.
Thanks, Bobby

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 01/26/12 01:16 AM
Just wanted to post a pic of why I have to replace the package tray. Apparently someone installed 10" speakers at one time and used a can opener for the task.

When you finish it you can take it to Mopar Madness!
Has philbates crushed out yet?

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 01/29/12 01:04 AM
I had to remove the roof skin, because of the rust under the vinyl top. Roof had surface rust all over it and holes here and there, so it wasn't salvagable. I don't plan on putting another vinyl top back on.

A couple of pics of the 1/4 panel removed.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 02/03/12 02:03 AM
Trunk floor is gone. So now my pics have caught up with me and it will seem like I'm slowing down on the car. Problem is, I am slow. Oh well, next job will be to do the mini-tubs.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 02/05/12 02:14 AM
I borrowed an idea I saw Jake(Jake is working on a Challenger in projects section)do where the 1/4 meets the roof. Instead of lead or bondo I'm welding in a strip of sheetmetal so it will be more metal than bondo. Thanks Jake.

Well, I was able to get the inner wheel tubs out this weekend, which was my goal and got them out well before the Super Bowl starts.

Well its been a while, but I finally got my mini-tubs installed. Next will be the package tray which shouldn't take too long. I'm going to start on it today when I get off this computer.

Ok, I finally got the dutchman panel in. I guess since it will be visable unlike the package tray it took me a little longer.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 04/08/12 11:33 PM
This is a small part of the resto, but I thought it was kinda neat. This is the brace thats in the trunk that goes from the floor to the edge of the trunk opening. The bottom was rusted where it meets the floor and needed to be fixed.
Posted By: bobbyb
Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 04/08/12 11:39 PM
I cut off the bottom of the brace to get a clean edge and took the cut off piece to work. We have a sheetmetal shop at work and I have friend that works in there. I asked him if he could copy it and he said to leave it and he'll give it a try. This is what I got, pretty neat I thought.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 04/11/12 05:52 AM
You gotta admit that's pretty impressive sheetmetal work.

Geez, I can't believe I haven't posted in here since april. This time of year you get kinda busy doing other things. Anyway I finished the trunk floor and have a few pics. Can you tell its been mini-tubbed?

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 08/03/12 01:01 AM
Thanks for the comments
it keeps me motivated. I finally got around to notching my frame for the spring relocation kit. I guess a little part of me didn't want to cut the frame.
There's no turning back now. Here are a few pics.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 08/03/12 01:06 AM
Here's the other side. These are just rough cuts, I still need to go back to clean and trim it to fit the box steel piece that goes into the notched frame.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 10/29/12 11:11 PM
I have some pics of the rear mount for the leaf springs. I didn't like the way they had it done in the instructions, because it would have made the shackels alot lower. So I did it different and I think it will be stronger. Here goes...
Posted By: bobbyb
Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 10/29/12 11:16 PM
I notched the frame for shackle movement and I wanted the shackle at factory height.
Posted By: bobbyb
Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 10/29/12 11:19 PM
I welded in the sleeve and welded washers on both sides. I also boxed in the frame where I notched it.

Where did you get the stuff for the mini tub and leaf spring relocation mods?
Posted By: bobbyb
Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 11/27/12 01:33 PM
I bought the spring relocation kit from Mancini's and the only thing I needed for the inner fenders was some sheet metal and I bought that at Lowe's.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 12/09/12 04:41 PM
I finished up the bottom of the car other than painting it. Its mostly rust encapsulator and primer.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 01/06/13 09:15 PM
I finished up some minor things on the car, but its still progress. I cleaned and sanded the engine bay and will sand it two more times before paint.
Posted By: bobbyb
Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 01/06/13 09:19 PM
The interior is cleaned and sanded and I will prime and sand one more time before paint, but I'm not gonna get it too pretty since it will all be covered up.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 03/11/13 12:25 AM
I'm ready to move on to the next "phase" of my project. The main body is repaired as far as rust is concerned. I'm ready to start sanding the main body and repair and sand the body panels. Here is the shell ready for some sanding.

Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 03/11/13 12:31 AM
Here's what I have to deal with on both doors. Someone installed upholestery on the upper door panels and drilled ALOT of holes to secure the fabric to the panels.

did you weld the sub frame connectors in while the car was on the rotisserie? what brand were they?
Posted By: bobbyb
Re: My '69 Roadrunner project - 04/14/14 01:09 PM
I set the car on jack stands and tacked welded the frame connectors in and then back up on the rotisserie for final welding and easy access. I wish I had more time to do a Bee, but I am suppose to retire in a year and a half
and maybe do some stuff for other people.

I finally finished wet sanding and buffing my car. Black is a very unforgiving color. I installed some emblems, decals, door handles and tail lights. I plan on installing the trunk lid and bumper next and after that I will be getting the motor together. The motor is a 451 stroker.
