Mecum A12 for 70k

Mecum A12 for 70k - 01/10/24 08:03 PM

Car just hammered no reserve at 70k. Anybody know if it had known issues in pedigree? Would seem a light sale even with NOM. I would say shocking given what people have wanted and they appeared to go for in last few years.

It has obvious stuff wrong, but all small bolt on type issues.

The black 383 car just went 50k just FYI.

1st day of the sale. Sometimes it pays to pony up and get a better slot. I like Mopars but A12 cars have never done much for me. I’d rather have a ‘69 Camaro 396 ‘vert, a lot more fun to drive. Plus no goofy hood to get off every time you need to go under the hood.

Not first day. Sale has been going on since last week.

OK, I was wrong about the sale date. I don’t follow auctions dates that closely, my bad. I would guess that big hitters aren’t there Wednesday afternoon though.

At $ 70K what would be the net to the seller be? Then there’s the hotel plus getting it there. The house made money though.

Looking at the body work and rust coming through cars going to need alot of rework.

If that A12 sold @ $70K, a truly nice, no-excuses example should be about $85-90K.
I don't know if it was #s, though.

I thought a lead seam looked bad and that was the deal, then a few photos later it looks more like the asphalt reflection is making the bottom look weird. The video doesn’t go down far enough to tell anything. Spot under right taillight doesn’t look good. Every decent a12 ive seen in last few years started at 90 and went up to 125 ask if a real Concour type effort. Some more than that.

The seller also pays 10% so he got 63k minus auction fees and transportation

After having been to one of these big auctions. IMO,,,,,If it sells cheap, there is a reason they're not showing.

I'm curious what the floral top Bee A12 does with its history.

Tag on that bee looks suspect to me. Weathering doesn’t impress either.

Auction sites have a way of making almost anything look great in the listing and on your screen. In reality, this thing was more than likely not great and would require a major teardown to expose all of the issues. I did not see it, but guessing there was way more hidden. Gosh, if only I had hung onto my A12 coupe back in the day....But, I did get $1500 for it.

Yes, the car has issues, specifically with the trunk and radiator support areas. Not my place to elaborate anymore, but it’s my understanding that Mecum took the car back after a previous buyer had the Wise Report completed.

That explains a lot, thanks.

The A12 has quarter panel disease. You see allot of it where the lower portion of the quarter behind the tire is pulled out to fit the ill fitting aftermarket trunk drop or wheel house. It's even easier to see on Coronet body lines. It should be tucked up under more that the body line in front of the tire.
