Not particularly a fan of side-marker "upgrades", but otherwise it looks like a sweetheart.
Has the Bill-approved color scheme as well, which is really striking on a 1st-gen Charger.
Curious to see where it ends up.

WOW! orignal owner selling

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 09/23/23 03:23 AM

Looks like it was a Company car for the local Service and Parts rep, it was replacing a 1966 Coronet Wagon with a 318 poly lol Chrysler would provide them with company cars to drive to all of their dealers they had to check in on. I think it was once a month they had to call on each dealer? Portland region covered a lot of area.

Dad's '66 Sport Fury was someone's "demo" when it became available and he bought it with around 6,000 miles.
IIRC, that was the # back then: still looked new but could be sold as used.
Probably some kind of financial write-off.
Later, when I worked for BMW, there was a similar deal with loaner cars.

I worked with him here in Albuquerque and he had it in his garage forever. Finally decided to get it up and running again a few years ago. Very nice car.

No argument from me on the color combo.

IMO, it doesn't get any better than black with red guts. But I might me a little biased

This is the 1st early Charger Ive seen that could make me consider one. I could live with the mods. Even the side markers ( for a while then they would go )

funny/odd - the wagon was "scheduled" after the HEMI Charger work was this Charger ever used as a "company car"?

Somebody made a bad decision with the side marker lights down twocents Love to own it but those would have to go beer

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 09/24/23 02:45 PM

Wow, perfect setup. I would love to own that one, the marker lights would have to go though, bad move there. I am one of the few that prefer the 66-67 Charger over the 68-70 Chargers, I love that body style, perfect grill and taillight design, and the interior is the best Dodge ever released.

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 09/24/23 03:13 PM

Anyone dare guess to what it will hammer at ?

65? 75,? , 85?

IMO only, but if it didnt have the side markers added. I could see this one dip into the 6 figures mark, Maybe it will anyway.

Considering that it is the original owner, being auctioned on hemmings, I expect a very lofty reserve that will not be met.

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 09/24/23 03:50 PM

I allways thought thet were cool. The console, dash lights, back seat. Fast bacl.
I used to see 2 all the time back in the day. John thatvstsrted Mopar collectors guide with rob and Randy had a 66, 426, auto, redlines, red with white interior all orginal. And later got another 66 white with red interior 383 auto for his wife. Was a cool pair of his and hers cars.
The black with red is stunning

Very nice.

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 09/24/23 06:10 PM

Good catch on rear wheel location, doesn't seem to be camera angle but has me wondering.
Agree on the markers - plus they don't line up with each other - yet spendy to remedy.
Nevertheless, really nice overall, known history & apparently reasonable usage/maintenance, great colors and the "big motor".

67 Front fender trim.

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 09/29/23 10:57 PM

It sold for $152,250 inclusive of buyers premium. That surprised me. But it's nice to see a 66 b body getting some respect.

I asked the seller twice If it has the torque boxes and the frame reinforcements. He replied to one without answering the question. The other time he didn't answer.

Hard to say. Depending on who you talk to, some say the market has slowed. Im not so sure

And if thats real, it has to be a benchmark for a 1st gen Charger

But a part of me sure hopes so. Sure makes me wonder what mine could bring at auction.( not that I have any interest to test that idea ) Maybe I should see about upping the insurance on mine.

Re: '66 Hemi Charger - 10/01/23 02:48 PM

Final & winning bid was $145,000 and there were 64 bids - looks real to me. Amount posted is with buyer's fee.
Sold my K10 through Hemmings and everything was legit with them.
I've seen a scam ad there - it was one of my cars, with info taken from another site prior to my purchase - but they got on that as soon as I notified them.
This car would seem to be something of an outlier, but it could be that the '66-'67 cars are finally getting some love.

Agreed, I think the 66-67 Cars have surely closed the gap between them and the 68 and later.
