Ramcharger APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) - 07/28/23 01:12 PM

From Marketplace in York, PA:

"1982 Peace-Keeper armored vehicle on a Dodge Chassis. 360 V8 motor with automatic transmission, 4x4. 23,400 miles that are known. It has no inspection. It has a turret with a folding step, two rear bench seats and a rear deployment platform with rear grab rails. The vehicle currently runs and is drivable. VIN: I 1B6WW34T7CS259113.
If you want a unique vehicle, here it is."

Ad has LOTS of pics. Asking Price is $24,500.

Marketplace LInk

Nowhere in the ad or in the Wikipedia story (Wiki) on these fine pieces of government contracting does it say that this is a Ramcharger underneath, only that it was built on a Dodge chassis. I had the (dis)pleasure of working on them in the Air Force, and they're definitely a Ramcharger, with 1/2 ton truck springs trying to support about 9,000 pounds in empty weight. Front axle components were kept in inventory. Imagine a stock early 1980's air conditioning system trying to cool the interior of a vehicle built out of 1/2" steel armor and painted olive drab green... On the other hand, it's got top turret where you can mount your M-60 machine gun...

Thats not a Ramcharger chassis. That is built off a w-350 truck chassis.

The VIN tells the story........

1982 Dodge W Series Pickup 4WD W-350 Standard Cab
VIN: 1B6WW34T7CS259113

Some decoder sites went further and said it was a cab and chassis.

The thing almost looks home made.

And if it were half the price, I would check it out. But I am glad it is over priced. So is the wife.

Just a for what its worth here- that machine had been sitting in Pittsburgh on a police vehicle auction lot for many, many years, connected to an area where they park the city's trash trucks/dump trucks. The presence of rodents is strong there, so don't be surprised if its a total rewire job. Someone also spray bored it flat black I see- it was olive green and looked tough. The glass is without a doubt bullet proof.

What's the firepit in the center for? Cooking meth while you drive through a bank wall? shruggy

That's the platform for the feet of the guy in the top turret. Once you're up there it's the only way to aim that .50 cal.
