No surprise, it in on BaT with no mention of the re-stamped block - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-dodge-challenger-t-a-7/

At least he doesn't call it numbers matching.

It's good to know when there is something misrepresented but as time goes on it's hard to find/see cars that retained their original #'s. I would rather just know that a car is not matching then have a stamp redone but with the prices rising greed gets in the way.
I didn't read everything but what is the back story, how did this come to light?

Interesting that the fender well is badly pitted yet the tags aren't whistling Wonder what else one may find ?

If someone posts a warning about the re-stamped block, will BAT not post it? I heard they edit/delete posts they don't like. Someone is gonna get burned on this one. ozbbq

I am FOREVER on the BaT filter list (none of my posts will go up unless they dissect them with a fine toothed comb). I merely pointed out some serious issues on a couple of cars that the casual, oh look at the shiny paint, people tend to look past. Now, none of my posts will show up unless I virtually say nothing. BaT has turned into a HUGE buddy network. Had a friend that tried to list a boat. A very rare Shelby edition boat that BaT had recently sold an EXACT model of. He got some kind of BS form letter about them not listing his "motorcycle" because they concentrate on cars. When he replied back to them letting them know that it was a boat...and just like the one they had recently sold, then he got a form letter back thanking him, but letting him know that the concentrate on cars and motorcycles.....not kidding.

There is a 3rd party company that 100% guarantees they will get your item listed on BaT....for a HEALTHY fee. BaT has really turned into something that it originally was not.

Try posting something questioning the serial number.

Cars get ripped to shreds on the comments. A cuda got taken down this year when some serious monkey business was ferreted out in the comments.

Unless one can PROVE something is amiss, it may get scrubbed by BAT.

The claim of a re-stamped block would probably need to have verification for the comment to stick.

At least the car has a broadcast sheet; something I'd rather have than the original block and no sheet.

Odd one would paint the engine compartment with pits in the metal (inner fender):

Funny how the current owner swears by the block being original, but the previous auction sure talks about the block numbers a lot:

Have to say, the comments on BaT align with my personal experience.

Sold for $77K plus fees. Seller breathes a sigh of relief....as long as the deal actually happens. Amazes me that someone would spend that much on a car with some potential issues.

The buyer can hopefully get his money back if it does change hands. If not, possible lawsuit against the seller & the auction house.

PLEASE, please NEVER buy any car without asking about it first?

A lot of money for an automatic w/Rust issues (see above inner fender) and a re-stamped block.

Don't think I ever seen two tags cockeyed like this. Usually they're pretty straight:

Has an issue like this ever ended up in court ? If so, it would be interesting to see how it played out if 2 opposing experts gave testimony as to what is original..........

Its interesting when you read the context of the information. Guy says the "numbers match"....which is not a lie. They do indeed match. I don't know if he ever says they are the original stampings of the matching numbers...just that the numbers match.
