1939 Plymouth coupe - 09/07/10 09:25 PM

I'm looking at a 39 Plymouth Coupe for very cheap. I like the separate headlights like the '37 has as opposed to the square, in fender lights of the 39. Will a '36 to '38 complete 'nose' swap on to a 39? Thank you.

Not sure, but I don't think so. I do know the 39's have a completely different front suspension, but no idea on the sheet metal. If all else fails you could relocate the head lamps and close up the holes in the fenders.

Guna be tough welding a set of 38 headlights onto a 39 fender/grill.

I believe the 38 nose will fit on a 39, the basic business coupe body shell is the same from 37 through 39, except the windshield area, at least doors and trunk lids interchange. You will likely have to modify the fender to running board location, the 38 running board bolts to the back edge of the fender and a 39 the fender bolts on top of the running board. You will also likely need to use the 38 radiator support because the fenders mount differently. If you have a whole 38 nose, I'd give it a try.

Maybe I should point out I run a welding shop, I can put nearly anything I want nearly any place I want. Its only metal. Gene

Thanks for the reply's. It has a nice nose on it now, didn't see the point in cutting it up. I just like everything about the '38 front end better, lights, grille, shell & fenders. I'd looked at various pics & could see the belt line, hinges, roof shape were basically the same between the 38/39. I thought I'd see if anyone had done it before I started trying to track down a 38 nose. Thanks!

No need to weld them on, they bolt on. Used to have a 38 at one time.

I understand that, but to put them on a 39 nose would be a project because the grill area is completely different between the two years. 39 was the begining of the wide flat front fenders and the sharp pointed grill area. Gene

39 is more like a 40/41 in the hood area, head lite area, and radiator,,,,as the 35 36 37 38 are differnt in these areas is why the early head lites would be hard and look outof place on a 39 and up car,,,,changing the hole front sheet metal would be the ticket,,i love the 37 38 cars,,,
