Paint on the 57 truck

Paint on the 57 truck - 06/11/10 06:11 PM

I started painting on the 57 truck parts today. I painted the frame a metalic silver and painted the rear axle , springs, rotors, and drive shaft a single stage gloss black. I suspended the frame from the trusses, that let me paint all sides of the frame at once. It worked pretty well. Now i can do the body work and paint on the body.Randy

Who has plenty of garage space? When you scatter out all the parts of a truck, it takes up alot of room.Am going to try and start the body work this week, but a new job is going to slow things down. Randy

Re: Paint on the 57 truck - 06/14/10 12:27 PM

I set it up for a front bumper( thats what those funny looking drop brackets are for) i am going to try it with a bumper and if i don't like it, i will take it back off and maybe run an old stile set of tow bar brackets. I have the front bumper trimmed to fit 1/2 from the body all the way across the front, so it looks about right. As far as color goes, i think i am going to go with a candy tangerine color(honda goldwing). I was happy with the silver i painted the frame, even though it won't be seen.Randy

Re: Paint on the 57 truck - 06/15/10 12:18 PM

I thought i had decided on a color for the truck. I really like an orange found on Honda Goldwings from 03, but after a trip to the paint store yesterday, i found out it is a tri-coat color and materials would be very expensive. I really don't want to spray that so i will try to find another color.( my daughter wants it plum crazy) As far as the frame question, everything from rear of cab forward is 88 Dak, the rear portion is shortened, narrowed, boxed, 57 frame rails.Randy Oh, and if anybodies shop is too big, they don't have enough projects.

Looking good. Like I said, I love the project. What are you going to be running for a motor again?

Re: Paint on the 57 truck - 06/16/10 12:00 PM

If money is not a big issue when i get ready to put the motor back in, i am going to build a 500 rb stroker for it. If i don't have the money at the time, i'll just put a low mile stock 440 in that i have in the shop. I was planning on running a tunnel ram just for the wow factor, but i just don't have enough room between the rear of the motor and firewall. Probably just use an performer rpm and single carb.I have a set of stainless block-hugger headers that fit nice. Randy

I love following this thread, we have a 57 dodge as well that we are in the process of "rodding"

These threads give me motivation!

More pics and advice so I don't screw mine up too bad!!!

PS. THREAD HIJACK!!! are there any differences in the 57 cabs between D100, D200, D300 etc? Or are they all the same cab with beefier motors/suspensions?

thanks! (now resume to previously scheduled thread)

From what I read, the cabs are suppose to be the same, regardless of the size of the truck, even the cab overs are suppose to use the same cabs. The fenders are a different story, the difference is between the the 1/2 tons and everything bigger. There may also be a difference between a 3/4 ton and the larger trucks, but 1 tom & up are suppose to be the same, except cab overs, they are their own game. Gene

Re: Paint on the 57 truck - 06/22/10 04:57 AM

On my 55-56 C-3-C8 if the VIN did not tell me it is a 3/4T I would have believed it is a 1/2T. The only thing wierd is it uses 5x5 bolt pattern wheels. Yeppers, same as chebby p/u wheels or same as my trailer.
