First, this ain't a Dart hood! Strap that thing to some strong supports before even thinking about removing bolts. Better to have a couple strong friends.
Next, try to get a manual or at least some info online. They did things a little different back then.
Here's one source.

Now, soak all bolts with good penetrating oil. 40 year old bolts are easier to remove than 60 year old bolts.
After that, take a good look at how it's mounted and make alignment marks.

Then remove the bolts and remove the hood. To remove the springs from the hinges is a separate ordeal. Be Careful, they are STRONG!

the spring/hinge look like seperate units. the spring is vertical and goes down inside the fender.

From the Chrysler website on Yahoo, Post War Heavy Metal (PHWM)
-------------------------------------------------
I have a 48 desoto that the previous owner has taken the springs off of
the hood hinges. Does anyone have a trick about how to replace these
springs? I believe I have the correct springs but for the life of me,
I can't install them
-------------------------------------------------
Get under the car with the spring in hand. I have done it with a glove on my hand but a tool to hold the loop in the spring will do well. Hook the spring in to the hood where it should go and pull it down and hook it to the place where the other end should go on the body.
I am doing this from memory but look it over and think about it. It will go fine. I do not remember if the hood should be closed or open.
--------------------------------------------------
I did something like this and it worked well. I used a rope in a loop, hung the hinges on the top with the loop down to where it is easily reachable, put a bar thru the rope to pull the spring down and hook it.

Does that help?
