ok so i was at a friends house the other day and he gave me a complete 75 camaro front clip and a 12 bolt chevy rear end housing now i know its not mopar but the price is right so my ?s are A how much of a b&^%$ will it be to stub the camaro clip on my frame and how well will the 12 bold hold up my plans are to narrow the rearend and run some 13 or 14 inch wide tires on the back i may be way out of line here but hes debating weather he should give me the 454 hes got to if i get that it will be chevy powered aswell sorry mopar fans but like i said free is the right price to sway my mind oh by the way my car is a 36 dodge 2 door coupe what are your thoughts

I know free is nice and all BUT if he is giving you that stuff with the stipulation you "HAVE" to use it in your car I would pass on the stuff and look for some cheap or free mopar stuff to use in the car
or find a GM car to use the chevy stuff.
I know its been done many, many times befor but
Me personally,I would never use a Gm drivetrain in any of my mopars, If I had a GM drivetrain I would find a GM to put it in Thats just me

so on to your questions, I have put camaro subframes under mopars but I like the Mustang II style frontends better.
and I don't care for the 12 bolt rear ends with the "C" clips, a 8 3/4 is stronger and better to narrow, but you could have ford or mopar ends put on a 12 bolt, but you need the right axels to be able to shorten them or get after market ones(not cheap) Ron...

I'm thinking a Camero clip is going to be pretty wide for a 36 anything body. 36s were still pretty narrow. If you have to narrow the clip to make it work, cheap or free just went out the window. Should be able to locate a mid 40s Chevy to put that clip and 454 in, would work out a lot better then in the 36 Plymouth body. Gene

Here's what you can do with that flatty

Free is a great price, but with all the other costs, I'd hold out for a Mopar engine. I will suggest that if he's just giving it to you without the stipulation of what you do with it, sell it and get a nice donor.

Camaro stub will be way to wide for a 36. Sell the 12 bolt and get a Ford 9" or an 8 3/4 to narrow. I'm also a fan of the Mustang II front end but it's your car. I think you'll find that "free" will actually cost you more before it's all said and done.

I have a narrowed 8 3/4 with aftermarket axles and complete brakes. It was in my 1980 arrow so it's narrow, pm if you are interested

did the mid 60s falcons have the 9 inch rear end or was it 8 inch anyone know i got a guy on craigslist saying its a 8 inch but i thought they had the 9 inch

Most mid 60s Falcons were light duty econo boxes, doubt many got a 9", the 9' were more for performance and heavy duty applications. Kinda like a bodys with an 8 3/4, most were not. Gene

Mid 60's Falcon with a 289 would probably be an 8", same as a Mustang. The GT's I "think" where the ones to get the 9". Normal V-8 with the 8" and tin-hat little diff for 6 cyl car.

sometimes rodders overlook another front end swap that's not too hard . While the Mustang front end is one of the best for a narrower 30's + 40's car , there's the cross torsion bar Aspen F body set up . One of the Mopar mags had an article on it , can't recall which tho

Of course it's your car so do with it as you want.BUT don't just throw it together because it is free.Take sometime and do it the way you REALLY want to do the car.I have a soft spot as I have one of those 36 coupes, mine has a 440 sixpac in it and it's great and I do get alot of complements for not sticking a chevy in it.But I orginaly wanted to run a early Hemi (which I now have) but it was alot more work to put it in at the time and I took the easy way insted of the way I really wanted to go,and of course I regret not doing it the first time around.
Good luck either way

Having put an F body front clip under a 35 Dodge, I can tell you they are too wide, and the torsion bars and subframe brackest extend beyond the front fenders of the mid 30s sheetmetal. There are other issues with the F body clip as well. Though they can be made to work, sort of, they are not the best choice for early (or any in my opinoin) street rod. And I'm a hard core Mopar guy. I believe you're right there Gene . Maybe the article was for putting one under a late 40's , early 50's car which is a tad wider
