goodguys rod and custom show - 09/11/09 12:32 PM

has anyone ever been to one of these events? are they big? worth the $17 admission? there is one in my area in a few weeks that i`m thinking about going to. i wont be taking any of my cars, i cant see paying the $45 registration fee.

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 09/11/09 01:44 PM

I have gone to several of them ..

For me, its easy worth the $45.00

You get TWO tickets for THREE days for that

You also get a monthly magazine that is very high quality

Locally our www.good-guys.com event draws in excess of 2000 cars, a great swap meet ,bands playing and a nice time to spend with friends old and new

Take your car, you will have a blast !!!

Take your car, it's worth the price, and the parking is better, Plus, you have someplace to rest your bones and keep a cooler.

Check out last year's coverage, that should help you decide.

it looks like its a good show but, $35 to become a member and $45 registration seems like a lot.

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 09/11/09 05:25 PM

The Pleasanton Goodguys is/was like 15 minutes away from me, and I stopped going about six or so years ago.

Why? I got tired of paying the outrageous prices to see the same cars over and over again. Then the swap meet shrank until it was mainly a bunch of chinese junk peddlers and diecast toy car sellers.

I wouldn't miss them when I was a young neophyte gearhead, and I still know guys who go to them, but personally, I'd rather put the money into my gas tank and cruise my car somewhere I hadn't taken it before.

It's definately worth going at least once, and I might check it out again the next time it comes around. One of buddies said they had an autocross event at the last show, which would be right up my alley.

Just my ...

I got tired of going to the big Mopar shows a couple years ago and started hitting the Goodguys once a year. I like it. Lots of different stuff - good Nitro Hemi drag racing too.

just went to the goodguys at kansas speedway. great overall show. lots of tri-five chevys, street rods, rats, pickups, etc. dont' go expecting a crap load of mopars, you'll be disapointed. there is a good amount, but not in huge numbers.

65 dodge,,if you are talking about the good guys at pocono,,i went last year and i am registered again this year,, last year was the first time for this event at this location,,,it rained all week before the event and most of friday and some of saturday,,,and gas was almost 5 dollars a gallon,,they were expecting over 2000 cars,,it didnt happen,,i dont think there were 700 cars,,but most good guy events are great i have been going to charlotte for 6 years now,,i have also been to indy,,years back ,great drag racing there,,charlotte brings over 4000 cars, and they have a poker run to the nascar shops, then you can drive your car out on the lowes motor speed way on saturday nite,,they are doing the same thing at pocono out on the 500 speed way saturday nite,,so each good guys events has some thing different,, if pocono doesnt pan out this year il be going back to charlotte next year i think,,come as a spectator this year and check it out,,stop and say hello il have my 66 barracuda

Good Guys in Columbus is around 6000 cars, I go every year. Was re-reading the Good Guys yearbook yesterday (2007 edition?) and there in all its glory was a pic of Big Dad's truck.

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 10/01/09 02:41 PM

well i didn`t make it to the show. i had an accident with my daily driver truck(03 dakota) it rolled down my driveway and hit a tree. my own stupid fault for leaving it in neutral. any way, i took out the bumper, fender, headlight/blinker light and blinker light arm on the steering column. so i spent saturday at the junkyard getting parts to fix it so i could drive it to work on monday. only $70 and its all fixed with the exception of the paint for the fender to match the rest of the truck.

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 10/01/09 05:56 PM

sorry to hear you couldnt make it,,but your not the only one that had troubles,,a few others had an eventful weekend trying to get to good guys at pocono,,,besides me,,and you,,,

as for me,a rear wheel bearing on my trailer frooze we think,,not really sure,,but the bearing fell apart,,new brake shoes burned,,had to extingquish burning brakes,,tons of white smoke never any flames,,,
had the trailer towed home 235.00 and drove the barracuda home,,,by the time i got showered i was awake 24 hours,,hopped in my truck drove to pocono as a spectator,,did the track drive in my friends 1937 plymouth 413 powered,,ws stil a decent weekend,,,

Fstfish66, do you have any more pix of your Barracuda you could post? I'd like to see your 40 as well.

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 10/04/09 06:53 PM

I generally like the stock roofline on that era better than a chop myself, but that one looks right.Almost have to look twice to see it's chopped!

40 current interior,,,after i get it back running,,i plan on going to more modern buckets, console and maybe a column shift, make a little more floor room,,,need to find buckets that will fit and not touch each other,,and allow for somne sort of console/arm rest type deal. ide like to find out how the modern chrysler follr shifts work, cable or linkage if i keep a floor shift i may use a pacifica console and shifter

Thanks for the pix! Both cars looks great, I love the color on the 40, that is one cool hot rod...the lil Red Ram Hemi is perfect for it.

The Cuda looks bad azz! I had a 65 and still would like to get another one and pro street it like you have done to the 66. I bet it would run some good times...do you race it?

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 10/06/09 04:30 AM

i was trying to find a 65 shell when i did the 66,, the 66 sorta fell in to my lap, was a rust free almost shell sitting on a cotton farm in mississippi,,puled it home back in 1984 thanksgiving,,,it was orignally to be a street strip car,,but i dont have the time to race it and repair it,,or the bucks l ol,,,so i just cruise nite and car shows type deal,,i did make a pass once,, fuel system wasnt big enough to carry it the full 1/4,carbs ran out of gas motor leaned out blew the blower gasket out,,car was never hooked up either spinning in to 3rd gear,,still went across the finish line at 109 MPH,, i think it wil run a mid 10 second pass on pump gas in street trim,, the 40 is 1988 dodge daytona blue,,thanks for asking

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 10/06/09 05:39 PM

When i bought my 65 the dealer had a 66 formula S also and I test drove both cars. Both cars had the 273 Commando but the 65 was'nt a formula S. Only thing about the 66( and it was Black too!). it was an auto. The 65 was a stick(just a 3 on the tree)...but when I floored it in 1st gear I was sold! The 66 was clearly a nicer car but i had to have a stick...i'm an old geezer and autos were'nt too cool back then.(1969) I always wanted to put a 4 speed in it but college and other stuff($$$) got in the way. Now I have 67 Cuda drag car work in progress, but still want a 65 that i can drive and criuse with like you do with yours. ahhh, maybe soneday...

Re: goodguys rod and custom show - 10/06/09 08:10 PM

my first car was 64 barracuda 273 2 bbl push button auto,,i just love the 64/65 body lines better then the 66,in my opinion the 66 is the uglyest barracuda of the 10 year name plate,,but it doesnt look to bad modified,,and i couldnt pass up the deal i got on a rust free body,,,it would fihure tho,, when i had the 66 in the chassis shop being tubbed, i found a 65 at the mopar nats rolling tubed car,,all lexan glass and fiber glass hood and trunk lid,,i would of had to change it to street glass,,but 4500.00 delivered to my house,,i still regret that deal but it was a mini tub not a ful tubbed back half,,,maybe in my next life time
