what model/year 8 3/4 for 41' plymouth? - 09/08/09 12:54 PM
Since alot of folks have been giving good advice, thought I would ask a little more. Decided since the drivetain is gonna be upgraded, may aswell do the rearend. Now I usually have alot of access to many diffrent 8 3/4 rearend and those are pretty easy to service, so it's a no brainer. Figured I'd have to move the spring perches, so if I don't have to narrow one and slide it under would be a big plus. Anybody done which year/model of car 8 3/4 is the closest width for the car?

I have used a "B" body rear end under36-38 cars and trucks, and they fit great so I would assume that they would fit a 41 just fine. 66-67 are just a little narrower than the 68-70 ones so one of those probably would be best

Measure the dimensions of the existing rear end and compare to those in the archives:

I had a 70 Barracuda gran coupe 8 3/4 housing mocked up in my 40 dodge. You only had to push the leafs out just a tad and the locating pins would pop right in to the spring perches. I wa told to use 55-57 chevy shock plates and it would bolt right up. The only thing is the chevy shock stud points out the front not the side like stock. later shawn

thanks again. Looks like 1966-70 b-body might be the way to go, though 190-e-body ones are bit hard to find. If I can get out and get the measurments on the plymouth rear, then I can get some real specs on it.
