New Glass

New Glass - 01/04/20 02:01 AM

For those of you that didn't know, I recently replaced the back window frame on my 48 Plymouth coupe. The original window frame on my coupe was rotted out all the way across the top, and in both bottom corners. There is nothing that remains original on this car,it was a rusty body shell put onto a Dakota Chassis and in the last 7 years, my wife and I have driven this over 50,000 miles. When it was thrown together, I fully expected it would be dead in a year or two. The rear window frame was one of those things I wasn't really too concerned about. Last year, it started leaking water, the time had come to do something.

I spent a little time looking for the sheet metal surrounding the business coupe's flat glass but came up empty handed. So then I searched out any rear window frame with some attached metal I could weld in. That process led me to a rear window frame for a 37 Ford coupe, that is a 2 piece split window. That window frame is now installed in my car, and the search began for new rubber weatherstripping and new glass. Since I have no pattern, I simply bought replacement glass for that 37 Ford coupe from Bob's Classic Glass. The delivered price for the green tinted 2 pieces of glass was $95, about 1/2 of what my local guy wanted. I ordered the glass on 12/20 and it arrived today, 1/3. The glass looks really good. It looks to fit better then the rubber I ordered from Dennis Carpenter, a prominent Ford aftermarket supplier, which I ordered the same day and was here within 2 days.

When I'm ready to do all the glass on my 49 Dodge pickup, I'm getting it from Bob's Classic Glass. He even has new truck quarter windows available for less money then I've seen used stuff priced at.
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.
Pictures or it didn't happen. The 1st picture is the new window frame welded in. The 2nd picture was the original window frame.

Yep. I've been buying glass from Bob for my projects for over 25 years. None better in terms of quality, priced and availability. He and I live about 90 miles apart so when I've driven to pick up glass, he has met me 1/2 way to save me time and gas. Great guy and very good service.

looks like a good solution you thought of.
surprisingly, using ford parts can sometimes be a saving grace because there are so many parts being reproduced.
plus, your repair looks good, and matches the theme of the car well.
good job gene ! up

Ya looks great up. Nice job

I've used Bobs as well for door glass on my 37 Coupe. Couldn't find it anywhere else actually (without the vent windows shruggy).

His price, including shipping to eastern Canada was still cheaper than having it made locally.

Try www.bobsclasicautoglass.com When you sort through all the mess that used to take you directly to a specific website, you want to click on his "home" page.
I need to take a picture of my finished rear glass. Gene

Oops! Maybe I should use some of my soon to be found government money to get new glasses.

I thought it was pretty strange Google didn't take me directly to Bob's site. Gene
