Have to wonder if the outside handles from the 39-47 Dodge trucks would work. A lot of truck stuff was 1st installed a few years after the parts were used on cars. www.robertsmotorparts.com shows outside door handles for 39-47 Dodge trucks, and www.vintagepowerwagon.com also shows regular outside door handles for the same era trucks with both locks and non-lock handles. I'd bought a set of door handles with locks for a 27-29 Ford, and other then the handle being set at 90 degrees from the lock, they would have worked. If you might be interested in the pair of Ford handles with locks, I have a pair I wouldn't mind parting with (one has been slightly modified). Gene

There was a 33 4 door at a show today with the original door latches. The owner has 34 Ford handles on the car. Seems the roadster and the standard car are different but the roadster ones work. Nonetheless the car has handles from a roadster. Thanks for all your input! up

so you say the roadster handles work ?
i was going to suggest using a ford handle, but i wasn't sure if those would even be close to working, mainly because of the bolt pattern spacing and [possible] differences in the door curvature. i did know they were both 1/4" square drive.
i'll be telling my buddy about that.
if you get a set, could you post a pic comparing the two ?

When I tried to put Ford door handles on my 39 Dodge pickup, the ford mounting screws are set up for a vertical position and the truck needed the screws set up in a horizontal position. Logic says you can turn the handles 90 degrees and everything should work, but you can't move the handles in the screw holding plate 90 degrees to have to handle in the proper position. Also, there is no curve on the 39-47 Mopar truck door with the horizontal screw mounting. The screw spacing is close enough to work, but you have to grind the curve out of the Ford handle base. Also, the ford 1/4" square was too short to reach the Dodge latch, at least on the truck doors.

If anyone is interested, I have a pair of 30 Ford outside door handles with matching locks and keys with one handle modified slightly to fit a 39-47 Dodge truck door (but the handle has to sit straight up and down, not sideways. That handle can be remodifyed to fit the Ford door except the curve in the base has been ground down. I'll sell the pair with keys for $30 + shipping. PM me here if you want them. Gene

I had to send my originals out and have them re-chromed. About 4 years ago they were not available.
