Howdy to all. OK, a bit of the history here. It took me 13 years to find one of these cars, I found this one back in Stockton Illinois, it was on a used car lot, I stole it for $6000.00, it was stock as far as the running gear, flat head 6 with fluid drive, me and my buddy that really knew these cars we drove it home from Chicago back to Seattle. I used to drive it here a lot in Seattle with the flat head, but I knew that to really do this car the way I want to, it was going to have to be totally torn apart and put back together again. The people that used to own it, had two of these, one that was all tricked out with a 392 HEMI, and this one was the one that they let friends drive to rod runs if they didn't have a car to drive, so under the hood, it is totally stock and by that I mean, nothing had ever been done to this machine, frayed wires, all 6 volt, and this was the fabulous little bullet proof cold blooded flat head 6, the speedometer said 98 K, so you do the math. OK long story short, I have recently retired, and over the years I saved my money, so I have 60 K stashed to do this right, and that doesn't count the $3200.00 I paid for the used 5.7 HEMI I bought from Jeno's, the engine only has 24 K on it, so its known that it runs, but before we fire it up, there will be a complete inspection of everything by those that know these engines.
Ron Pircey enterprises will be doing the build, and he used to work for Art Morrison who's shop is just a couple of miles away from his shop in fife washington, so the logistics are easy for me. Now bear in mind, I am old school, from the days of points plugs cap and rotor and condenser and new wires and presto, you had a tune up, at least that was the way it was at my dads wrecking yard when I was a kid growing up! But with the new stuff, I am wise enough to leave it to those that know the drill on the new computers and such. I will be staying with the fuel injection, I like to have things start up every time. This car will be a very cool cross country cruiser, and I do mean a full loop around the united states, but more about that when the car is finished.
So to answer your questions, its like this, I am a true MOPAR fan, always have been, and these cars are simply kick ass when it comes to styling and over all fat fendered, buxom automobiles, and I love the big trunk. The car will be totally taken apart, and the body shipped down to Oregon to be dipped, and to find where the hidden rust is and then dealt with, the car will be put back together as you see it, same green paint, but with some very cool wheel smith artillery wheels painted green with beauty rings and 49 dodge truck, dog dish hubcaps. The tube type radio will be rebuilt with all new guts that are solid state, blue tooth, etc, but the face will still be stock, the clock will be rebuilt and the speedometer and gauges will be the same but with what ever modifications that are required to make them work on 12 volt. There will be a vintage air AC/heater/defroster unit as the engine is set up for AC. So here are a few pictures, and I will be keeping in touch with the various cool people here on this site to digest their valuable input as this build makes progress.
