That '36 Dodge pickup on CarDealFinder.com - 11/02/18 08:08 PM

Hey, guys. Been a long time.

I was lurking around a few weeks ago and someone posted a link to a nice looking '36 1/2 ton on CarDealFinder.com that I checked out. I contacted the owner who eventually got back to me, I sent him my phone # and here is his response:

I would be more than glad to call you but I work overseas with Linn Energy Inc. Location of the truck is Portland, OR. If you are interested I have a contract with a shipping company and I can make arrangements right away. You will have seven days right after the delivery has been made to make sure everything is in order with the truck. If you won`t like my truck (not your case) you notify the shipping company and you send the truck back on my cost. Basically, it's similar to buying a truck locally.
To be able to start this transaction I will need your shipping details (full name, complete address and phone number). You will get by email the bill of sale, contract, receipt, transaction invoice and the tracking number to check online the status of our transaction. Thank you!

Well crap, knew it probably was too good to be true.

However I do have a couple of cousins in Portland that I haven't spoke to in ~40 years. Wonder if they would do me a favor??? grin

Seems like an odd way to make a purchase and to sell anything. Wouldn't it be better and more straightforward to have someone in the area look at the truck? I live about 30 miles from Portland and used to own a 37 Dodge pickup so if you can get the address of where the truck is located, I can find time to look it over.

(Sorry I just noticed your last sentence under the sellers reply)

Yeah, I figured it was a scam as well. Especially when I saw the ad has been up since April, but what the heck, just maybe.

Last night I emailed the seller that I would like to have the truck inspected by a cousin. Haven't heard back. whistling

Thanks for offer EM. Who knows, may take you up on your offer yet. However, don't sit by the phone waiting for it to ring. shruggy

I had a '36 once upon a time and it is one of those that I still kick myself for letting go.

Still haven't heard back from the seller. Don't expect to either. I did contact the website & told them that I/we thought the ad was a scam.

Speaking of CarDealFinder.com, what is up with them? So many sharp cars listed for under $10K. I mean a lot of them - Vipers, Streetrods, 68 Charger (not so sharp, but well worth the $7,500), Challengers and list goes on.

Anyone ever do business on that site?

I had nearly the exact same reply from an add for a 34 Plymouth coupe that I inquired about. When I told him that I bought nothing site unseen and that I was only about 100 miles from the "Shipping Company" who supposedly had the car all I got back was silence. Even contacted the Shipping Company through their website with no response from them either.

Did more searching and found the same car had been sold about 6 months prior on Ebay for a price about $8K higher than the seller was asking for in his ad.

IT'S A SCAM!

Another favorite ploy is "I'm deploying to Iraq" etc. etc. etc.

I've read this somewhere else lately.

I think you could if desired use the computer picture recognition feature to find the site from where they lifted the picture.

I never heard back from the website after I contacted them. I wonder if the whole website is a scam. shruggy
