GASSER OR RODDER? That is the question----????

Hey, thought I would ask you very knowledgeable folks what you thought. I always wanted a Rod, so I bought this 38 Plymouth business coupe. I have all the pieces, fenders, ect and they are near perfect.

However lately, I have been really enjoying the gassers I have been seeing. It made me wonder if I should do a gasser instead.

I actually like the old school stuff but I want something I can drive long distances and have some comfort in.
I dont know how gassers handle, drive, ect.

I am going to do more down the road, so do you think I am better off doing a Rod or a gasser if its something I am going to drive longer distances or a lot? I know little of either, so I have to learn both.

I vote rod if it's going to be driven alot. The old straight axle gasser will beat you to death on long trips not to mention rattle the car to pieces.

I built a '52 Plymouth Business Coupe gasser, fun around town car, but handled and rode like my solid axle '57 Chevy truck (go figure! ).

Wanna drive it? Rod!

Wanna race it? Gasser!

Dave, as much as I love the gasser style cars(and I plan to build one with the willys sedan that I have)
getting the chassis just right so it drives and handles good is a challenge.
if you already had a good driver streetrod and you wanted a cool gasser I would say go for it.
but if this is going to be your nice riding long distance driver I would say go with the streetrod style car.

now if you get another rod that you want as a driver friendly car then I would build the coupe as a gasser.

to make a axel car work good I would go with a cross steer set up like they do with all the ford rods out there.


these cars look cool but I bet they would not be so fun on a cross country trip, a cool trip, Yes but not so fun all the time..... Ron....

Ron, nice looking car. I have no idea on how to chop this machine and would only destroy it I am sure, so it will have to stay stock, but WOW THAT chop looks nice on that rig.
