Aluminum fuel tanks and fuel lines

Will they survive todays fuels?

I wouldn't just because car manufactures never did. Aluminum works good on race cars that don't get used for long periods of time. But I have a plastic tank and wish I had a steel tank.

if a guy were to build one, i think i would go stainless. it's easier to weld than aluminum [ at least for me] and way better than bare steel. just my opinion.

Yes the aluminum will be fine with todays fuels. Even works Good with E-85 fuel in them. Me and a bunch of friends run them and never any issues with the tanks. We run 93 octane now, ran airplane fuel prior to that. My other car ran 110 race gas then E-85 and no Problems.
We street drive the blue RR a lot on 93.
When I do my 36 Ply coupe I will have an aluminum tank in it.

Plastic tanks are actually safer....better in crashes and better in fires.

aluminum tanks get used in boats all the time---i have saved several from boat partouts for hot rod applications....

I have an aluminum drop tank in my Holden Torana...very popular and common in Oz, and have no troubles with it at all. (they were used in race cars to gain capacity (all long road race cars) and carried over to street cars and are seen often on this era/style of car still.

Yep, but been used on the roads/street cars in Oz since the 70's when the cars were racing and people started using them as well. When you have a 1000 kilometer road race, the bigger the tank the better. And a lot of people ran them on the street as well after that and currently. (Does make setting up the suspension a little more interesting with the amount of weight as a variable.)

Mine aint hanging quite that low. Then again it's only 13 gals. Went with plastic on my race car.

Yes they will live... unless your using methanol.. ethanol
is no problem... I built this one for my hot rod..18 gal

Just use fuel injection rubber fuel lines. These rubber lines are engineered to run all of the common fuels of today at the pump.

A guy i know takes old cheap stainless kitchen sinks cut them in two then welds back together to form his hot rod tanks---got a sending unit hole and one hole to fill where the fuel pickup rests

Cheap is good, but ugly kills the thrill.
