1956 truck build. Underfloor power brake booster? - 03/11/14 05:01 PM

Gathering parts for a pickup truck project. Plan to use a 1991 360 with tbi, 518 od tranny and Dakota front clip. Still looking for a rear end. I like the way the current stock brake pedal looks. Searching through some parts catalogs, I can't find a power brake booster,mc that fits under the floor listed as fitting a dodge. Any ideas on what to use? Trying to keep the budget in line. I don't mind piecing something together that is safe. Thanks.

Plenty of street rod options out there, but you will have to measure and see what will fit.

Speedway motors is pretty good about giving overall dimensions.

I did under floor in the desoto because space was so limited

It was a PITA ..

you will need to use residual valves to keep fluid from bleeding back

we did an underfloor master/booster set up on my cousins model A roadster pu and as dad said, it was a BIG pain. I'm guessing the Desoto has twice the room under there as a model A has. we used a "universal" kit, which just means you get the master/booster and a generic "fitzall" type of bracket/pedal assembly. this was chosen because we knew going in that most any bracketry would have to be modified to fit as there were no underfloor kits to fit his unknown mfg [likely home grown] chassis. most of the kits out there use a gm[corvette ?] master with a small diameter booster. I really don't know what the booster is patterned after, but for his light weight ride, works pretty good. we also had to re do the pedal as there is really NO room in a model A for anything ! not trying to discougage you in any way, but trying to let you know what you may be in for. our reason for this was to keep it off the firewall both inside[underdash] and out.

plenty of suppliers out there for under the floor or under the dash brake parts, not many are body specific,,, some need adapting but its not hard at all,,, eci brakes has bracketry,,,master power brake,,butches kool stuff may have brake mounting hard ware,,, southern rods,,,look at summit racing,, or pick up a street rodder or rod and custom magazine,,,if your a good guys member there are advertisements in there,,,worst thing you may have to buy a under the floor brake pedal and mounting bracket or adapt your original,,, i used a pedal and master cylinder kit from master pwoer brake,,,but i ended up making my own mounting bracket,,just like the one supplied,,i made it a different size moved it forward so i didnt have to delete the under floor battery box,,,
