working on positioning the engine and tranny. 360 magnum and a 904. i was going to cut the firewall and recess it in order to run a fan and shroud but decided to leave the firewall alone and use an electric push fan instead.

Cool stuff!
I have the same handle you have, wish I had a shorter handle. It's a tight squeeze for the motor and radiator but you can run a fan. I recessed my firewall and run a clutch fan and here is more room if I needed it.
Wish my truck wasn't hacked so I coud of just used a mustang II like you did.

i bought a set of dolphin guages off e-bay that fit into the original openings. they look a lot like stock but are 12 volt. the only part of the dash i will be cutting is the center below the windshield crank for my stereo.

Looking good so far.
I recently picked up a 47 pickup-so your project is going the same direction as I hope to go.
How much does that FatMan setup lower the front vs the original straight axle? How much did it cost?
thanks

Re: progress on my 42 dodge truck. - 01/14/14 05:13 AM
the fatman i used is supposed to lower the front about 3" but i can go lower by cutting the springs. cost was 17 hundred.

finished wiring my truck tonight and installed my new gauges. i fired up the engine for the first time. i used a Painless kit. all the wires were marked to show exactly where they go. i would use Painless again. windshield, a couple of small odds and ends, assemble my bed and i'll be done.

I wish my car would allow me to keep the patina like that. Looks good. I can't wait to see it rolling down the road. And since you won't have time to drive the Roadrunner I can keep the cobwebs out of it if you need a hand.

Re: progress on my 42 dodge truck. - 06/29/14 12:16 AM
finally done as of today. new wheels and tires and front end alignment. i drove it 66 miles today on its first voyage. other than a slight overheating problem, it ran great.

Nice ride!!! I'm working on a 47 as we speak. What headers are those? and what motor mounts did you use?
thanks!!

Re: progress on my 42 dodge truck. - 06/29/14 02:01 AM
i bought the headers from a friend that had them in the attic of his garage. i don't know the brand but they are ceramic coated chrome block huggers. the motor mounts are mid 80's dodge truck.

Sweet looking truck! Has anyone volunteered to that your aluminum slots off your hands yet?
, Let me offer to do that for you.
Personally, I'd ditch the flex fan and put a real one on there, along with a schrod. That will solve your over heating issue. Gene

Re: progress on my 42 dodge truck. - 06/29/14 10:40 AM
you have the same problem most rods do, the fan is too low,the hot water enters the radiator at the top,,,if your running a vee belt system and not a serpintime belt,,,there is a fix to run your mech fan,,,1 build a custom shroud,,or this is the best,,,find a 1960 dodge truck 318 poly,,ive heard some motor homes also use this,,they have a special timing chain/water pump cover,,,it raises the water pump up higher then normal,,it would put it in the middle or higher on your radiator,,,or get a street rod electric fan with built in shroud use it on the engine side puller,,much better then a pusher fan,,,some fans such as the cooling componets fans,,require a lot of amperage,,

looks great!! the headers might be summits block hugger headers. I have a set on my Desoto, they fit great and look good I bought them a few years ago from summit for $225 ceramic coated. I did have to file out the end holes to fit the studs on the heads, not a big deal though.

Again, nice ride.
What master cylinder and brake pedal/booster set up did you use? I was going to mount one on the frame on my 47, but it is looking like space will not allow that option. thanks

Re: progress on my 42 dodge truck. - 07/09/14 02:43 AM
the pedal assembly, brackets, booster , and master cylinder are all off a 69 roadrunner i parted out.

I am running that 318 poly raised water pump on my 1940 plymouth the motor sits low just like yours with this poly timing cover it moves the water pump up to just about center of the Rad. I am running right at 180 temp even when sitting still on a hot day it doesn't get over about 195 I also put an electric pusher Fan on just incase it would need a little help
