wiring harness question

I recently got a 33 Plymouth 5 window and they really hacked the wiring in it. I spent part of a day trying to figure out the wiring for the headlights, park lights, signal lights, and brake lights. I think I will be time ahead to just rewire the car. What brand of wiring harness do you guys suggest to use? Cost and ease of installation are the main factors. I am thinking of an 8 circuit fuse panel. Any input would be great, thanks.

First, let me get this out of the way. We need pictures!

Now, I bought a Ron Francis harness for my project but it is overkill(like a lot of things I do). It was exspenive too but a very nice and complete harness. I have not installed it yet so I can not comment on that.

I hear painless is good, and I think its American Auto Wire?

I would advise against any wiring system that doesn't allow you to terminate the wire ends at the fuse block.........some appear to be hard wired to the fuse block and you can only terminate one end of each wire.

I've had two cars with Ron Francis systems and I like them, their Bare Bonz would be a good choice for cars without a lot of accessories.

Did a quick search on Ebay and there was one priced at $380.

Well I ended up going with the painless kit and have it pretty much installed. Went a lot better then I thought it would when I first opened the box, a lot of wires in a harness. Do any of you have a wiring schematic for the dash in this 33, as far as hooking up the fuel and amp gauge? Am I going to fry anything if I just try the wires one way then the other?

amp gage should be red going in [positive] black going out[negitive]. a volt gage would be better in my opinion. the gas gage should have a power [ + ] and a signal feed [ from the tank sender]. it could also have a ground terminal, but i haven't looked at a 33 gage panel in a long time. don't forget the original gas gage was a 6 volt item, so if you hook it directly to 12v without a stepdown resistor[ or whatever it is called] it will fry . the amp gage will work as is, provided it can handle the output of your alternator. if it is only a 30 amp or so, i wouldn't try it. glad to hear you are having sucess with the install.

Anyone know which step down resistor I would need for the 12v to 6v fuel gauge? Is there any way to convert the ammeter to a volt meter? I'd really like to just use the stock gauges that are in the car, they're pretty neat I think. The car has a one wire alt. on it so I know it puts out more then 30 amps but the gauge is fused and I'm only running a small electric fuel pump and the headlights. So it shouldn't use more then 30 amps should it if the battery doesn't get low sitting should it?

Go with American auto wire or Ron Francis. Stay away from those cheap crap harnesses out there.
