Hello, I'm new here and need help.... - 03/10/13 10:57 PM

I could'nt find a section for first post, so I hope starting here is ok.

I've lurked here for many years and this place is great! Many thanks to Moparts for this forum.

I've owned only Mopars my entire life with the exceptions of owning a 1960 TR3A and a 1967 TR4A when I was a kid. I currently have several mopars, I'll list a few of them if that's ok.

-1956 300B, restored

-1957 Saratoga hot rod

-1950 Plymouth 2dr. Deluxe driver

-1958 Imperial

I'll try and post a pic or two of the '57. I look forward to meeting all of you and I hope this post is ok here.

My dad and his 1973 dodge truck. (slightly mortifried)

1935 Airflow C-1

1948 New Yorker I have two, my dad did the upholstery (first time and last time, to much work )

We also have a

-1966 300
-1973 Imperial
-1980 Town Car
I look forward to any comments or questions you may have.

Thank you! It is the 355hp engine. I paint all my cars in my nasty, dirty ole garage. I made the air cleaner because a original "batwing" was hurtfull to my wallet.

BTW, I need new quarters for my '57, any suggestions?

These cars were the racers choice for a time in NASCARASON.

This is a 1973 Dodge truck that became something else. My dad drew this in the fall of 1981 and six years later, this was the result. The car is powered by a 1973 340, it has 4WD(brakes), all leather seating with a rumble seat. A 1974 Imperial was the donor car for most of the parts including the grill, rear-end, electric windows and seats(narrowed 8" each). The headlights were '28 Lasalle I think. The mirrors are Ferd and the door handles I don'nt remember.

The engine was moved rearward 28", the steering moved inboard and the colume tilt-tel '74 Imp .

Every thing other than above was fabricated the hard way. I can take some pictures that show the hand-fabbed top and other things if anyone is interested just let me know.

Now this makes a little sense. I thought you had posted the wrong pic when you mentioned your dad with the pick-up. All very nice cars. I too would like to see the hot rod with the big Hemi and tunnel ram.

Love the Airflow!

Saw one in a yard a few years ago, thought about it but was told that restorers sort of hog the parts so to hotrod a 'Flow is just about impossible... What is your experience?

Thanks,

I was wrong by stating the "roadster's" headlights were '28Lasalle, they are 35-36 Lasalle/Cadillac.

The pics of the '57 that I am posting now are pics I've taken today.
I have all parts to redo this car and the car is solid. 12 years ago I started to redo the car but got sidetracked for a short time and by a short time I mean 12 years.

The 392 has a solid Donovan 417 blank roller that was ground by Lunatti. As I remember the numbers are ~.650"Int/.660Ex - 312*Duration 260@.050 . I used Isky roller lifters, a bronze gear drive, adjustable pushrods and stock rockers. I gave Lunatti all the particulars regarding the car and was shocked by the cam numbers. Turns out they were dead on as this car had a super flat torque curve and makes hp from 3500-7400 rpm. (7.60's @ 95mph 1/8 mi. single 4bbl)

The heads were ported by me and work well. I nickle-welded a mild steel plate in the center exhaust ports and shaped ground them. When I finished the portwork, I took them to a local NHRA world champ and he said they looked good. I never put them on a bench but I think the numbers would be pretty good. I had 2.050" stainless intakes installed with teflon seals.

I used a Cloyes 340 gear & chain set, a 340 mil oil pump and installed a 340/360 windage tray. I used Egge cast pistons and I reget not getting forged slugs. I shift ~7200 and have had no problems to point. I dragged it for a full season with a single 750cfm Holley so the slugs are ok for a no nos setup. I used a TCI "rattler" balancer with a home made pulley.

I modified a comp 9000 distributor made for a 351 Cleveland. I had to shorten it to make it fit under the intake. The coil and all the wiring are located behind the firewall or inside the chassis rail.

I used a 727 with manual vb mated to a 10" PTC converter. (3500 stall)

I used an A-body 8 3/4 with 3.91 sure grip push the rubber. I made 2" spacers for the rear wheels because there was no room to install/remove the 10" slicks. The rear also had Moser drag axels with 1/2" studs.

The water cross-over was a pain to make. I used .090 ss and brass for the thermostat housing. Check the pentastar shaped body. I will make a better looking cross-over as I refresh the car starting mid-may.

Hope I havent bored everyone with the details. Just ask if you have any question.

My dad restored this 35 in 96-97. The beauty in "hotrodding" is that the word original need not apply. I asked him about the hoarding of parts and he did'nt remember much of that. If you can't find parts you can fab many yourself.

The front grill "slats" were hand made from al sheet. The bezel under the drivers headlight was also home made.

I think this Airflow Hotrod sold for $600K

The intake was bought from HOT HEADS or some other vendor. I think I may have the receipt somewhere. I made the top plate so as to rotate the carbs so that the butterflies would line up with the runners.

Who makes that tunnelram? I have been looking for a TR for my 354. Not crazy about the Hot Heads offerings.

I hear ya on that. I dont remember who I got it from but I think I have the reciept somewhere. I'm thinking about changing the induction system, not sure if it will fit the 354. Do you know?

I'm checking on that - i know the ports were a slightly different size, but I would love to be able to make a setup like that work.

I'm thinking about changing then entire induction system. If this will fit a 354, maybe you and I should talk. Doug

Doug,
Thats what I am thinking. I have a friend that runs a 392 in a '37 plymouth coupe. I will talk to him and see if he knows if it will work.

See what you can find out. Check the throttle mech. and the gas pedal. Lokar supplied the hydrolic linkage.
