Is it really as easy as removing the torsion bars and installing a stock location coilover in its place?

Yup, but I'd do something like this too :

Also, I believe you need to drill and tap the lower control arm 'stud' so you can make a retainer plate.

I sure like the idea of the kit for added support, often wondered if the stock stuff would hold up under both shock and spring loads. The bottom shock mount is easy. Just spread the lower control arm for the size shock you will use. A piece of threaded rod with two nuts on it between the holes, turn them out till you have the right dimension. You may have to drill out the stock bottom shock bolt holes to 1/2, can't remember its been so long.
Gumby, can you elaborate some on the stud mod?

It depends on the usage.The shock towers werent made to carry all the weight of the frt end.They need reinforced.Rocky
