Water temp

Water temp - 10/25/11 02:34 AM

I've got the water temp sending unit in the block of my 360 and haven't drove it over 5 miles yet but the temp hasn't reached over 170 either time, it has the 26" three row Champion with 2-12' fans and a 180 degree thermostat does anything sound funny, I was expecting at the most 190 degrees. It also has the flowkooler high volume water pump.

At over 4 miles I would expect it to be opening the stat...
the stat might be partially open and moving fluid into
the radiator ... just a guess.... try driving farther

my sender is in the pump hsg. i don't think having it in the block is any different. cover ur rad with a towel to increase the temp, then remove it & see if the temp stablizes. i think ur system is fine. stay safe, seeya.

Will make a difference if the sender is on the rad
sid or block side of the stat... I dont know where
yours is located

It's on the lower passenger side of the block, below the freeze plugs.

Put it up next to the thermostat housing so you can see how hot the coolant is leaving the motor Not entering the motor

Now Cab_Burge why didn't you tell me this sooner, but you have a very good point. Does anyone now what kind of temp sender to use with a weiand tunnel ram set-up then.

I use the bypass hose hole in the intake and eliminate the bypass and thermostat on my SB. You can also get an adapter for the small Mopar temp sender hole or you can open it up and rethread it to a larger size.

Yes, thats where it should be. Depending on where you measure it, block water temps can very as much as 80 degrees.
