66 & 67 B body Cars rear slicks

66 & 67 B body Cars rear slicks - 10/18/11 03:48 PM

I am trying to fit as much tire under my 66 Belvedere as possible. I am trying a friends set of Hoosiers radials 30 x 9 on steel rims 4 1/2 off set. They fit in the wheel well but they rub the outside inner well just a little. I'm using stock location on the springs and would rather not mini tub. What tire and wheel combo are you 66 67 B body guys using? Any help appreciated.

275/60-15 BFG Drag Radial mounted on a 15 x 7 Cragar S/S on the back of my '67 R/T. I believe that's a 4 1/2" backspace. Ever so slight rubbing going around corners from the outer wheelhouse. But, I also keep them at something near 30psi on the street.

On my old '67 Coronet wagon I ran 9x30 Bias Firestones (94.0" circumference)on a 15x7 4 1/4" backspacing steel wheel. I cut the pads off and centered the housing before setting the pinion angle and re-welding new pads. No sidewall rubbing issues.

I am putting this 67 together,9X29" slicks with a 5" backspace. I relocated the springs to the framerail though. Plenty of clearence on both sides of the tire this way.

I've run 275/60/15's on the back of 2 67's. I had to roll the inner wheel lip up some.

I use a 15 x 8 wheel with a 4.5 inch backspacing and M/T 9 x 28 slicks or 11.50 x 28 x 15 M/T ET Streets.
Springs in stock location, stock wheelwells and no alteration of the front of the wheelwell. Completely removed the inner lip on the quarterpanel. No issues with this set up.

10x28 Goodyears on 8.5 centerlines with 4.5 backspace I think. Maybe alittle more backspace than that. All stock springs location in a 67' GTX. Pretty tight though. New slicks will be 9x29s.

I believe mine are 28.5"x9" on "Cop" wheels. Two things. To put em on you have to jack the car up by each side individually. Also if you dont slow down enough before you turn around at the end of the track, they'll rub very slightly in the outer wheel house.

I like that set up you have on your car. What kind of rims do you have? Here's a shot of one side of my wheel well and tire.
Thanks for input everyone.

The Charger is a completely different beast when it comes to rear wheelwells. I think a 28x9/15 on a 7 or 8 inch rim will work without hassle. Anything bigger is gonna be Hit and miss. In the fenderwell picture above, you can see that tire is rubbing pretty good (28x10?)

I think the Coronets are diff. too. Dodge quarter panels bulge out compared to a pretty straight Plymouth quarter panel. I've got 10" wide tires on my '66 Belvedere on Centerline rims and they just barely rub. That's next years project..

Just be aware that although the qtr panel skin bulges out on the coronet, the inner wheel house bulges in toward the tire. Don't know why they did it that way, but they did.

Won't be running YOUR numbers or anywhere near, but I will hopefully be having fun!!!!
