South Carolina - 09/24/11 12:16 AM

I'm considering relocating to Beaufort, South Carolina and wondered if someone can recommend Orangeburg or Dorchester as good places to race.
Is one better than the other?

Dorchester i wont go to. all grudge racing, alot of yelling, drinking, rap music

orangeburg is a real nice track but i think they only care about the track when the pro mods are there

Bowman is one of my favorites, cheap, hooks, good people and its near orangebrg. the bad is highway barrier walls that tend to get a car airborn if they hit them

midway just reopened and the track is comming around. wide track. half way to Darlington

Carolina "House of Hook" is near Augusta

I raced at Orangeburg back in the mid 70"s when it was a typical backwoods 1/4 mile track. It was shortened to 1/8 mile around 77 or 78. I have not been there in years but understand the track has been completely updated and has alot of outlaw promod races now. Dorchester is a backwoods 1/8 mile outlaw track that is very dangerous if you have any power at all. I raced there back in the 80's when it was built and it was ok back then. It has a very short shutdown with a railroad track going across the end. No bull! Carolina Dragway is located on the South Carolina side of Augusta, GA. and is an excellent track with alot of very fast heads up classes. Then there is Darlington of course!

Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. I also got some response over at Classracer.com.
Orangeburg seems like a very good track but their $60.00 entry fee is pretty steep.

is that to enter a bracket race? if your just looking to have fun with friends than Bowman is the place to go. $10 to run your car

the $60 at orangeburg keeps out the riff raff though

You can come on down in Alabama for some Big $$$ Bracket Races and if Heads Up is your thing there are plenty of them also.

Next month MMP is the $Million Dollar$ Race. If you are a Grudge Racer Phenix City is the place to go.

Being from the northeast and having raced at Englishtown, Atco, Island, Lebanon Valley and Maple Grove, all very high quality 1/4 mile tracks and with an average of $35.00 entry, $60.00 is a big number to race the No Box bracket, riff raff or not.
I've never raced 1/8 before but Orangeburg looks like a high quality track.

Savannah River Dragway is another close to beaufort. It is a small 1/8mi test and tune/ grudge race track. It is next to a dirt track. The track is okay but there is a lot of beer consumed there. We take my buddy's maverick for fun and test and tune. It's $15 bucks entry (to drag or spectate all the tracks) and seems to have a fairly consistent starting line. I'm not a fan of the lack of tech or the loud 4 wheelers. Kevin

That's why I spectate. We have pretty much ironed out the bugs on the Maverick. I think we might take it to Jackson "house of hook" next weekend. Kevin
