would you race w/ this tire? - 08/01/11 05:13 PM
ok, i got a new set of bfg drag radials 275 60 15 this year and put maybe 20 miles on them and 2 short burnouts, no runs at the track yet. last weekend i took my brother for a short drive and after we got back the passenger side went flat. i just put some air and found a bad leak like i ran over a nail or something. my question is would you feel confident having the tire patched or repaired by a tire shop and running at the track? doing burnouts and airing down the tires? i'm hoping for low 12's or high 11's so maybe 115 mph. maybe faster as it feels a lot stronger with the new motor. i don't know much about tires so i don't know how reliable a patched tire is. they are almost brand new and expensive. do i need to buy a new tire and patch this one as a spare or will it be ok????? thanks for any input, dave

If it's just a small hole I'd pull it off break it down put a patch inside and run it till it's worn out!

Hello! If you have it done correctly, it will be as good as new. Yes, some manufacturers say the warranty is "void" if patched (on performance tires that is), but at my shop we have done many race tires, drag tubes, etc..I wouldn't worry about it. Jeff

Yes, and you don't air down radials they work better with 17psi and better.

My drag radials have 2 plugs in the sidewall. Has never been an issue. Car runs

do you think the thread doesnt flex?
those plugs, if installed correct, will hold up fine.

Little over a week ago,I ran over something at the track and put a hole in one of my slicks. It was pretty close to the sidewall and I don't think I would trust a patch or a plug going thru the traps at 127.00 mph..Ended up putting tubes in for my own peace of mind...
