Well I Went Backwards

Well I Went Backwards - 06/08/11 06:17 PM

Was putting in the tubs today and had the body going
up and down to fit them (cant get the tubs to clear
with the chassis in place)... anyways I was trying to
lift the body a inch or so in the rear and my hoist
went crazy... it started going up by itself and before
I could get to the breaker panel the front fell and
busted up the front end... its fixable but DAMN, I
take 1 step forward and 2 steps back...... and the
one fender was NEW and the last one to be found

I have no clue as of yet... I'm so PISSED... I got the
car back on the hoist and came into the house to COOL off...
I'll check the switch on the hoist to see if its got
crud in it or what

Re: Well I Went Backwards - 06/08/11 11:04 PM

I'll have the body mounted tomorrow ... got the tubs
ready so tomorrow I can weld in the rear down bars
and at the same time they go through the rear window
and the bed cover so it all goes in a once.... from
tomorrow on the body/chasssis is solid

Thats one of those things that will make you solve all the problems with 5 gallons of gas. You did the best thing, just walk away for a while.

Re: Well I Went Backwards - 06/08/11 11:33 PM

That sucks I'm sure you'll have it fixed in no time. My hoist has done the same thing. What I found was that the contacts in the switch welded themselves together.

Gas wash , match dry ?
I save that for the final answer........after I've used the 50 / 50 , ask the audience and phone a friend.
Bummer Mike , but as stated......glad you weren't hurt.

My buddy had the same thing happen while hoisting OUR car onto the trailer. Apparently this kind of thing isn't so rare.

Not real sure but it must have been the switch or
the relay stuck

Re: Well I Went Backwards - 06/10/11 03:40 AM

Dang, I hate that for you, and have been there myself. I have a similar story about lifts. I had one of my motorcycles on the lift working on it. Simple fix, didn't tie it down. Turned the ratchet a little too hard...over she went, opposite of me, in REALLY slow motion. Parts scattered all over the floor. Total loss, and parted it out on Ebay. Lesson learned here. I know you don't really have a lesson to learn (except maybe an elec. disconnect at lift), but know you are not alone! Glad you are fine, and car is fixable!

That suxs Mike.. Could have been worse, could have been injured, had some part of you body on the hospital side of the pinch point...

It could have been worse... but what is left of the
body(just a shell) I can pick up... the front end
damage is what pissed me off but I can fix it.. just
takes more time

Re: Well I Went Backwards - 06/10/11 07:50 PM

Well I got the body glued to the chassis today... so
hopefully it wont be falling off the hoist anymore

Re: Well I Went Backwards - 06/10/11 08:57 PM

Glad you weren't hurt Mike. It's bad enough to have the setback of more body work.
We recently pulled the body off my car for painting. The guys couldn't find the electric winch, so we did it with a chain hoist! After what you went through, and others have said about this, I think I will stick with the hoist!
