Jeff Johnson's Chrysler Challenge - 03/21/11 06:31 PM

Here's the long-awaited info! The Chrysler Challenge will be a full festival event with a car show (50 classes) and swap meet ($25 entry). Drag racing will be Box, No Box, Nostalgia Super Stock (NMCA rules), and Nostalgia Pro Stock. Of course, we'll have gambler's races and lots of other activities, including a bonfire. Plan on bringing your tents or motorhomes, and racing/camping/partying well into the night. Complete info is now on my website www.jeffjohnsonmotorsports.com. Coming soon - Event #2, September 9-10, 2011, location TBA! We'll have a total of four events in 2012! And yes, we'll have a points series! Forget all the crap! Let's get back to the business of racing and having fun!

No, Marion runs 1/4 mile for their regular program. Our race is also 1/4 mile. The only 1/8 mile racing we'll do is Outlaw 10.5 (KOS) which we're adding to the program.

did I read correctly 1000.00 to win? Good luck with that one, I guess cc events pay scale was not so bad.

NSS and NPS are all makes, the rest are Mopar only. I think.

I'm not sure if it's Mopar powered or Mopar bodied or both though.

The rules make NO SENSE to me!
NO BOX = FOOTBRAKE, but AIR/ELECTR. SHIFTERS ARE OK????
No trans brake allowed, but rpm CONTROLLED shifting is OK.

Sure, ALL RUN means that it's not a qualified field (32/64/128, etc.) If 137 cars show up in Super Pro, they all race. It DOES NOT mean all makes and models run. All vehicles must be Mopar powered. Yes, Toypar and James Brown's Maverick are welcome to try and kick our a$$. This is a Mopar event, not some "versus the world BS." BTW, while we're on this topic, I have heard several comments and rumors that I am involved with Sled City Championship Events. I am not. Larry is a 20+ year good friend of mine and I will be at his event. He is doing an all makes nostalgia event on his own, without any assistance from me. It should be a good event.

...not entirely correct...the box/pro cars ran 1/8 and the no box/modified class ran 1/4(with plenty of mid 10 cars in the class)..as a matter of fact the w/end the nost. funnies were there, they ran 1/4 with a few of them running over 180 mph. BUT...the top end of the track is rough and will keep you very alert during shut down. the shut down is quite long and you have plenty of room to get slowed down without having to grab alot of brake at the end of the pass. nevertheless i'm pretty psyched about this race, and i'm happy for mark and kelly (owners).. they have put alot of time and effort into keeping the track open and it should be a great w/end.

I talked to Larry,Boyd and Charlie at the Indy show and got 3 different stories about all their events, now I'am totally confused.I even talked to two of them at the same time and got a different take on the events from what I was told one on one.Who or what is to be believed.I would like to have the straight scoop, either here or PM or call.
Heck I don't even know if the CC/Mopower-Curt Race is being held at PRP this year.If I don't hear something soon I may contact PRP myself or find another venue and organization to hold the Curt Memorial Race.I'am certainly not going to wait till the last minute.
We certainly applaud Jeff's and anyone efforts to promote Mopar races and events

I missing something somewhere.... nps rules say all makes, but I also see in other post it is mope powered only? It also say you can use a trans. brake, but no two-steps are alowed unless you use a manual trans. trying to figure out how to launch my car on the brake without my 2-step.

.we will camp for sure..we stay just about every time we race there.and if you do the family thing like i do,and your kids like to fish, MCIR has a nice little farm pond that the kids fish all the time. make sure you pack some fishin tackle. ..once the racing is done we usually start up a nice fire, do up some steaks and drink an adult beverage or two. ...hope to see alot of moparts members there.

We have roasted a few hogs in our day after enjoying a good pig roast. Actually we have spit roasted and pit cooked a few pigs,Hawaian pit cooking, stuffing the pig with chicken, keilbosi and pineapples is good eating but takes a long time to cook.

We would like to,Donny and Chaz haven't finalized our race schudle yet.We would like to attend as many Mopar races as possible. Our favorite is the Mopower(old CC)but with Larry Augustein,Jeffs and now Josh putting on events it is going to be great having more to chose from, more events with less distance to travel. We are commited to the Mopower races as far as sponsership but will consider others in the future.I have been in touch with Josh and like what he is doing

That's right, Doug! This is a real event! We're not gathering input, debating rules and classes, waiting on sponsors, etc. Registration is NOW OPEN! Plus, you'll save 5.00 if you register in advance. Once you look at the GUARANTEED payout (16 places in each class, BOX, NO BOX, NSS), plus the merchandise that will go with it, the $75 race entry is one of the best deals going. This is my 30th year of promoting great events and I can't wait to see everyone again!

He'll be donating a pair of AFCO racing shocks for the winner of Nostalgia Super Stock. These are their latest Reactor Series, monotube gas shocks, as used by Doug Duell and all the new Drag Pack Challengers. This is a $400.00 value! Check out www.afcoracing.com for more specss.

Don't forget, the winner will also receive a 2012 CC Series Gold Card, potentially worth another $300.00.

Jamie I think if I read the flyer correct Friday is a Gamblers Race and Saturday is the regular race. Then you can stay and race with the regular Sunday program.

Entry cards hit the ground last week. Let me know if any of you would like a quantity of cards to hand out at your business, race track, Carlisle, etc. The more the merrier!

Re: Jeff Johnson's Chrysler Challenge - 06/29/11 03:48 AM

looks like there is gonna be a fair amount of moparts members attending this race/show..maybe we should have a get together sometime durning the w/end. i know it could get difficult with all the different activites going on, but i just thought it would be cool to have a moparts tent or some type of meeting place, just so members could have a place to meet members that havent met before. just a suggestion...whada ya think ?

We're working with Alan to set up a free Friday night BBQ for everyone. It's pretty expensive but we're going to try and pull it off. We're encouraging everyone to camp out with us and have a late night party.

Re: Jeff Johnson's Chrysler Challenge - 06/30/11 01:25 AM

For those that are planning to attend and it is your first trip to MCIR I thought I would answer a few questions that I have when I go to a track for the first time.

Fuel 110,112 and alcohol are sold at the track
E85 is sold in 2 places in Marion
1/4 mile finish line is past the score boards(dont laugh)
Box will be 1/8 mile and No Box will be 1/4 mile
No curfew at the track
No crosstalk
Closest motels are in Marion, Marysville and Kenton (all about 20-30 minutes)
Camping at track is allowed
Camp fires are allowed
Summer-time in Ohio bring mosquito spray
Small pond that kids can fish in
Closest Grocery stores are in Larue, Marion and Richwood
There are lots of places to eat in Marion, Marysville and a bar with good food in Larue
Beer is sold at the track

I hope this answers a few question.

Re: Jeff Johnson's Chrysler Challenge - 06/30/11 02:29 AM

i raced there this past w/end and thought the starting line was OK...and got better as the nite went on...remember the track is still pretty green...they have been rained out something like 7 outa the first 9 weeks..as far as the shut down..well...it's a little rough...nothing that cant be handled by a competent driver in a safe race car.(imo)...they had Nost.F/C running there last year going 180 mph and they all got stopped without incident.

Great News Jeff!, we will be there. Um, where is this track?

MCIR is located in Marion county Ohio, just outside of Larue. Neat little track located out in the country.

Me or my car have never been there......
I might have to make a trip....
Old pic of my car when it was regular at Larue
