yep better have fluid in that trans if you plan on running more than just a few seconds.

Re: my poormans dyno - 02/27/11 03:59 AM

well, everything went good, sounds good. good oil pressure. i'll run it a little more tommorow and then go over the valves. the trans does'nt have the converter in in, so nothing's spinning. thanks to all the helpfull info from all you guys and the shops that gave me sound advice that aided me in this build.

Re: my poormans dyno - 02/27/11 11:20 PM

Here's the one I built.

Cut the torque convertor in half for starting, tranny is hollow.

Everythings adjustable and we've had Hemi's, big block and small blocks on it. Works great.

Love to find a water brake to be able to seat rings.

Just remember with no load it's easy to over rev it.

Here is the poorman dyno (breakin stand) I made for all my slant sixes. I just use a flywheel and a manual transmission bellhousing.

Does that look like a Torqueflight to you?

Same here, that's a nice one, but don't really have the room to store it and after seeing a couple of the lighter framed one's believe I will just adapt my engine cradle for now

Re: my poormans dyno - 02/28/11 03:54 AM

ronbird, it has the jw flywheel to accept the turbo 350-400 converter. i just did'nt put the converter in so the trans imput shaft does'nt spin.

What's a Torqueflight? Is that one of those transmissions you don't have to shift ?

Re: my poormans dyno - 02/28/11 07:15 AM

It actually breaks down and takes up hardly any room.

Re: my poormans dyno - 02/28/11 11:51 AM

If you run it with the trans bolted up and fluid in it, you had better have the yoke in there too, right?

I'm almost there myself and have been chompin' at the bit to hear this baby run all winter. I dont want to put it in the vehicle until I know she checks out.

I love that stand with the hemi in it.

Good to hear there was no trouble on start-up, the headers look good on that thing.

Re: my poormans dyno - 03/02/11 01:42 AM

Wont tranny fluid spew outa the tranny tail shaft without a shaft in there? Im pretty sure I started a few in the shop without the driveshaft in it, and it made a terribly mess.

Re: my poormans dyno - 03/02/11 03:28 AM

Looks like alot of duplicated effort to mount the accessories and the rad and tranny for the test and then disassemble and put in the car.

Re: my poormans dyno - 03/02/11 05:56 AM

so you better have tranny fluid in it.......and how did you start it again???

sorry

...i had to
