440 Powered Honda Civic!!? - 02/26/11 08:32 PM

This was my project over the last four years. It has a .03 over 11.5:1 440/727 with 3.90 narrowed Ford 9" with a fourlink rear and Pinto front stub, full tube frame with 10pt cage.

Motor specs
1966 .03 over 440
11.5:1 CR
915 heads, ported
Howards Cams 722401 solid lifter .518/.533 lift,288/290 ad dur,246/252@.05,110LSA
Harland Sharp 1.5 rockers
M1 intake
Hedman shortie hedders
Race Demon 1000cfm carb
Now it is time for wheels/tires, and a higher stall torque converter.

Here are a some videos.

Didn't really get a chance to talk to you at the drags.

Did you build this purposely for the ice drags? Or is this for asphalt as well?

Is it going to be street legal? I'd love to see the look on a Mustang, Camaro, 'vette, whatever, owners face when you pulled up next to him at a light or on the strip.
Pretty cool.

Pretty neat little car.

How long is the drive shaft in that thing

Re: 440 Powered Honda Civic!!? - 02/26/11 10:45 PM

It has plates and insurance. Got it done mid Oct. Drove it to work a couple times. I started building it for stock altered but that class went away. I thought it would be a fun car on the street also. It gets some funny looks when you idle thru town with the big tires in the back and the loping exaust!

The driveshaft is 6" long joint center to joint center.

Being a CIVIC, I thought it would have at least 6" exhaust tips on it.
Pretty cool, and a lot of work,I'm sure.Welcome to the nightmare known as Moparts!!

I love seeing people think outside of the box! Cramming a big engine into a tiny, lightweight car is the very essence of hot rodding. That thing has got to be a hoot to drive on the street! The import boys will be scratching their collective heads when they hear the sound of your car. They probably ask you what exhaust system you have that makes your 4 cylinder sound like a V-8.

Awesome!
What rear and gears in the thing?
What headers did you use/modify?
Where do you pull air from for the carb?

WHAT??NO FWD OR FART CAN???God bless you son.

I agree with Dave, cool project and welcome always wanted to do something like that.

Re: 440 Powered Honda Civic!!? - 02/27/11 03:54 PM

Guess I missed that one.NO coffee yet.I see you were running hedman headers as well.
I would think it would do better with a lot less gear being so light.

I look forward to some et's on pavement.

That won't allow for much suspension travel will it? Is that with a shorty trans?

On the street it spins with tires I had. I have some 325/50R15 BFG Drag Radials for next summer.

I have 4" of travel at the joint.

I'm very anxious to hear what it does with a tire under it! If I still lived in WI I'd be begging for a ride come spring.

Re: 440 Powered Honda Civic!!? - 02/28/11 02:24 PM

I love it

It sort of reminds me of a 440 6 pack Gremlin that used to run the streets around here in the '80s.

A properly "modded" honda...
Does it meet the 90" wheel base?

I have run this for about 25 years without a problem. Still the original joint it was put together with. The driveshaft tube is just under 3". I don't drive it on the street but have driven some ruff return roads.

As long as the shaft is phased in right you should not have a problem. Quicktree is the expert on this board on that topic.

The civic looks like a lot of fun. That is what hotrodding is all about.

Re: 440 Powered Honda Civic!!? - 03/01/11 01:24 AM

Here's What I found:
4:12 WHEELBASE (Jan. 6, 2010)
Minimum 85 inches, unless car has original engine in original
location and is shorter than original, or noted in class requirements.
Maximum wheelbase variation from left to right is 1 inch, unless
otherwise noted in Class Requirements.

I'd call your divisional office and try to talk to a tech guy. If the car is otherwise safe, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Still looking, will be ordering new next week if I don't any thing used.

Fronts 15X3.5-4 with 4x4.25 bolt circle or 5x4.5 bolt circle(would have to change out the pinto rotors for bigger bolt circle)

Rears 15x10-12 with 3.75-4.5 back space and any bolt circle(will have to drill new bolt circle, mine is ford truck 5x5.5)

Predator got changed to a Race Demon 1000cfm. Predator was strong on top or on the bottom, could not get tuned for both. I will be putting two predators on a tunnel ram for a rat rod truck with a 440.(next project)

What kind of driveshaft loop did you make for that extra short driveshaft?

Also is the TF a standard length or did you get a short trans from a truck with a divorced transfer case?

It is a standard loop and sits just ahead of the center of the shaft.

It is a standard length trans.

Man what a cool car! Good Job

Best run in paved 1/4 mile is 11.3@118. My converter slip thru the traps is 14% so I need to get it pulled out & tightened up. Hoping I can crack into the 10's.
