Rear seat Sheet metal... - 01/18/11 04:12 AM

Sheeting off the back seat area in the duster and would like to see pics of how you guys did it. Maybe some step by step pics not just completed pics. I'm looking at .025 steel with .50x.50 square tube as a frame....

I've never done this before so all help is greatly appreciated

Nothing is cut out now. Stock wheel tubs. Roll bars going just under the package tray. Seat is removed. Thats about it. I can get some pics in a little bit...

No plans right now. May go to cal tracs in the future but nothing serious as of right now.

Yours is pretty simple, I would go right up the seat
brace... do it in 2 pieces... one piece all the way
across up to just above the bars going back then a
second piece thats broke for the packing shelf down to
just over lap the top of the lower piece

I was thinking about running the sheet metal from the package tray down to where the rear floor pans drop down, so the carpet could actually be underneath once done. For a clean look.

Can it be done this way? Or does it have to be completely sealed off with silicone or something?

Re: Rear seat Sheet metal... - 01/18/11 05:30 AM

I believe they say sealed.... if you stay on the front
of the seat brace you can glue or velcro the carpet to
the alun(or steel) if you want to remove it and it would
give you a clean installation

I guess I misunderstood you in what you were trying to do. I thought you were going to cut the rear factory sheet metal out and replace with new. You are just wanting to close off the trunk area correct?

This is how I did the last car and it was way simple.
hand full of pop rivets and some seam sealer........done deal.
You won't need a frame for it , just use existing seat braces to support it.
