{{{ 64 Valiant Street / Strip Progress Update }}} - 01/14/11 03:21 PM

OK....we're thrashing this weekend to get the final mock up done, weld in the frame connectors, adjust the pinion angle and weld up the perches, measure for the new drive-shaft and install the new "Champion" 4-Core radiator to be delivered today (67 Rustang #CC340) I decided on due to it will fit in the existing /6 radiator support with just some light massaging.

Last will be to strip out all the trim, bumpers, glass and it's off to the body shop next week to get straightened & shot in base/clear Ice Blue Metallic...!!!!!!! {FINALLY)

OH...also picked up the 14x6 front steelies here locally and received the 15x7 4 1/2" backspace steelies from "Specialty Wheels" through Frank Long....Thanks Frank....!!!!!! Had them powder-coated gloss black and mounted up the new Firestone Wide-O-Vals....the rears fit perfect with that backspacing and the F60 15's that have an 8.8" wide tread with room to spare...!!!!!!!

Here's a few pics I shot.....more to come after the weekend thrash

While having the wheels powder-coated I decided to get a few other items coated as well.....original jack & spare tire parts & the fuel tube

Over-all I'm very happy with the ride hieght with the 2" lowering blocks at the rear and have approx. 5 1/2" of clearance at the oil pan

The 408 slid right in with the K-Member modification we made for the 8 quart Moroso pan and the new MSD E-Curve dizzy clears the firewall better than I expected, but did have to do a little grinding on the back-side of the tunnel ram for it to clear to the front, but not too much

I'm also happy I decided to go with the Edelbrock Endurashine 500 AVS carbs, they look sweet and will be a hell of alot easier to adjust & balance over the original AFB's

I really like the Summit alternator billet bracket, but ass you can see it will not fit with the spacers supplied.....need to make up our own for a perfect fit......the plastic spacers were just for mock-up

Well that's it for now, still trying to decide whether to go with Doug's or TTI on the headers (scratches head) ...... will post up our weekend progress next week and then it will be at the mercy of our body shop for approximately five weeks.....Damn

Like others have said, that will be a fun scooter on the street! (I don't mean to sound critical) Your car, build it however you wish....But, this is nagging me, so I gotta say it.....you powder coated the tire jack and the gas filler tube, but you rattle-canned the crowning jewel of the engine, the tunnel ram. Again, I don't mean to be critical. Overall, it really is a neat car. Any idea on how much it weighs?

Dave, you're absolutely right on that call and plans are to dress it up once all the little bs items are sorted out....

As far as weight....NHRA lists the curb weight @ 2784# for a 1964 100 post car w/273 4-speed pretty light...mines pretty gutted as well, but does have an 8.75.....I'm thinking under 3,000#'s for sure

My '66 post car has every piece of weight out of it that I can unbolt or cut, and has no cage. Last time I weighed it at RT 66 it was 2800 w/4 gal. gas/Slant/904/8.75.

The 63-66 A bodies are just like the 66-67 B bodies. Really neat cars, but just don't get any love.

If/when you do powder coat the tunnel ram, you may want to smooth out the roughness in the noticeable areas with sandpaper or other media. To take it a step further, fire up the tig welder and fill in those larger pits with aluminum.` This is just the show poodle builder in me coming out here.

I hear ya....it was really pretty smooth to start with....the paint sucked though...

My P-Coat guy is phenomenal and takes care of the prep & very reasonable....he used to race Top Fuel Bikes...one very cool dude

I also doubt this project will match in comparison to your Duster....I'm just not that patient

Did you make any modifications to the rear springs or hangers to get the F-60 tires in there?

No Bob, everything is in it's stock location....couldn't really tell you if the 8.75 is the factory width of the original, but I did lower the body with 2" lowering blocks between the hosing & springs, ordered 7" wheels with 4.5" backspacing and it fits perfect 3/4" between the sidewall & springs and approx the same outboard all the way up the stock wheel wells....measure measure measure....did I mention measure....I was still a wreck until I mounted them and saw the results....whew

Lookin' good, Rick. Really brings back the memories as my first '65 had black steelies w/ Western Auto "4+2 Belted 70 Wide One" on the sidewall. can't wait to see that bad boy in blue.
